He was not fit for regular service, so they made him a courier.
Ceiling, baby, c'mon.

We don't do ourselves any favours by pretending Hitler was something less than he was.

He was a corporal-messenger in the German army. He twice won the iron cross for b**********y. He was wounded three times, including being (temporarily) blinded by mustard gas.

"Messenger" doesn't sound like much of a role now, but in WW1 it was vital and dangerous. Not that "cook" wasn't an important job, but Hitler wasn't a cook.

If it wasn't your agenda to show up Hitler as a weak coward keeping out of the way while doing a trivial job, I apologise. But it quacks . .

I am not pretending that Hitler was anything less or more than what he is, you are reading things into the simply trivia question/answer that are not there.

Hitler was initially deemed "unfit" and "unable to bear arms" after being arrested for attempting to avoid military service. The German army was right not to send a person up to the front when they know that he unwilling to do his best for the his country. Being a messenger was very hazardous duty it was probably seen as punishment duty where it was unlikely he would survive for long. He got the Iron Cross twice for being wounded, the wounds that he received may have even have been from a muzzle of a German rifle. Anything that moved outside the trenches was shot at. Basically he got the two awards for coming out of the situation alive. This may have been true of the mustard gas blinding. In WWI, long distance communication in the trenches were by messenger or courier pigeon, so a messenger traveling to the front would have no way to know that there was a gas attack under way. In any case, it could have been American gas or even German gas that was sent back by a gust of wind. Before WWI, Hitler was a angry homeless man that lived on the streets, he was once saved by a Jewish organization for homeless men one night from freezing to death.

Cats are not able to taste sweet. They will lick your toothpaste for the minty flavor because catnip is related to the mint plant.
