I think it might have been Chili Davis.
I know the situation though.... he hit a pop-up into short left field at the Metrodome in Minneapolis and the ball hit a speaker that was hanging from the roof.
Dave Kingman did hit a famous shot in the same stadium as I mentioned above. His shot went through the roof and never came down. The umpires eventually gave up waiting for the ball and awarded Kingman a double.
