IP's are easy to get, and completely legal. It's content that's illegal.
there is a website out there for 20$ a month that if you got a name you can get every single morsel of information on that person. up to and including the up to date most recent property values of everyone on your street.
If you are real and not the figment of someone's imagination, if you don't feel safe you shouldn't be on the internet anywhere, especially posting about your location, boat, itinerary, baby, mother etc .
As for your posting history, you have boasted about being feisty etc, argued, bullied and in your own words "talked down" to people. This new fixation of yours will of course just be a red flag to them, so if you are planning on having your 'white hat; find a person's ID, it is quite possible that some of the people you upset in here are going to do the same to you.
Someone was pumping me for enough details to be able to look for the name and registration of our boat. So it has already been done to me.
I believe that he crossed the line in doing that. And apparently I could indeed try to recover those costs if the therapists determine that I need to see them because of the crossing of that line. Pretty much a waste of time if you look at it financially. Odds are the courts would find us equally guilty and both the lawyers walk out with much fatter wallets. Sad, but most likely.
And the publicity would hurt Loki's feelings.
So is there a point? Someone crossed a line and it it has made me uncomfortable, and unhappy, and several much stronger emotions. I think that I would be foolish to not look into how easily an attack on my identity can be launched.

Finding people is easy, and does not require a hardware solution. There are many ways to skin the cat.yes I discovered that. It needs a hardware solution apparently.
Staying anonymous is not simple, hardware or not. Don't draw the attention of a motivated hacker is the easiest answer.
the best way to avoid someone that has hurt you is to continue to post to them and antagonize them while insulting them. then start a thread with a veiled threat. then attack others right after crying that you had been attacked.

Second, you are on meth if you think you could get anywhere except $100k poorer with even a nuisance lawsuit. You claim to be non-resiident of anywhere so whatever jurisdiction you might find to file your claim for a tort incurred in "international waters" would find that a motion for an advance costs security order for the defendant be made. And to get far enough to get to prove whoever typed the words is whoever your illegal hacker says the IP resolves to, you'd have to get a Court Order to get the ISP to disclose whomever the account is registered to. You'd have fun trying to come to a Judge with "clean hands" and fight an uphill battle with one of many ISP's who risk way more by not fighting your spurious demands for their client's information. The Canadian ISP's recently got the federal government of Canada to withdraw their ENTIRE Internet Child Porn bill proposing that ISP's turn over basic client info without court orders.
