As Obama was thanking his campaign workers, he broke out into tears. Some say that when men show emotion, its a sign of strength because men have been socialized to quell their feelings. Yet, some traditional adages like "real men don't cry" are still around.

Here is the video?

What do you think? Strong or sucky?!

I don't think it's "strong" or "sucky". I think it is merely real. Call me naive, but while I may not agree with all of Obama's policies I have always admired his emotional honesty. He shows his feelings and doesn't apologize for it. That may not make him the best president (and I'm writing this while watching him talking about his deficit plan) but I have always felt he was sincere.

I have never felt uncomfortable shedding tears.

Weak!

Let's give him the benefit of the doubt, and assume he wasn't pretending, in the clip, and that he really could not contain his tears.

He's weak if he can't hold back his tears when thanking his staff. Different story if e.g he loses control and cries at his kid's funeral.

I think it was pretty "unpresidential". Romney must have really been crying a river.

Nothing wrong with crying. When I got my last Visa statement I broke into tears.

Seriously most men cry when life just becomes too much. They just do it in private.

I would say that it is part genuine emotion , and as already stated, a good chunk of exhaustion thrown in, that's all, if he's was blubbering that would be one thing, he shed a tear, composed himself and moved on.

On this I entirely agree with Red.

The thread is rather like "real men don't eat quiche" so what does it mean when you find a SEAL or SAS trooper eating quiche? It is with all apologies to Amber, silly.

I agree, it's silly. Show me a guy who never cries and I'll show you someone who's got a much more serious problem than occasionally being emotional. A debt of gratitude can be a pretty overpowering emotion. I think it's awesome that Obama was thus moved by the loyalty and dedication of his staff.

I know one guy who is what I call an emotional cripple. He never shows any sign of emotion. Even when his baby son died he never cried or got depressed and that's when I realized there is something very wrong with him.

Obama is a Brave Man

It takes a brave man to cry in front of a crowd. I've never been brave enough to cry with others around....only in private with a few trusted friends.
