Hall of Fame baseball writer Bob Elliott would like a word with you, Donald.

He has named Sandy Alomar as the favourite for the position.
From the Cleveland Indians Official Website:

CLEVELAND -- Sandy Alomar Jr. finished as the runner-up in the Indians' managerial search, but that did not deter him from agreeing to stay on Cleveland's coaching staff. I

In a text message to MLB.com on Tuesday, Alomar confirmed that he has agreed to be on Francona's staff.

Butterfield is an outstanding coach. Coaches don't always make great managers. I have not seen anything that indicates Butterfield is interested in the managers position nor have I ever heard of him being interested in or interviewed for any managerial positions that have been out there.
From the Toronto Star:

BRIAN BUTTERFIELD

Currently: Jays’ third-base coach and infield instructor

Resume: On Jays coaching staff for 10 years; previously a third-base coach with Diamondbacks; minor-league manager in Yankees’ system

Why he’ll get the job: Longest serving coach on Jays’ staff; was a finalist in 2010; very well-liked within the organization

Why he won’t: Some reports suggest he’s no longer interested; may join Farrell in Boston, which is near to his hometown in Bangor, Maine.

The fact he agreed to be a bench coach does not eliminate him.

Yes, agree with GWW. He is just covering all bases(heh-heh) incase he does not get a managers job.

Ozzie Guillen is now available.. maybe even cheap since Miami is paying him for 3 years to get lost.
Might be a good fit - Canada would probably be a little more tolerant in regards to Castro remarks, especially with another Trudeau on the horizon...

Guillen is a horrible fit. He draws way too much attention and too much focus on himself for a manager. To me, a good manager does his job on the background and his team is what is suppose to get the attention and focus of the media. Toronto has a lot of good young talent that needs someone that can guide them and be patient with them. Ozzie is definitely not a patient man and more importantly with all talented that they had @ Miami completely underachieved. He would not make my list at all...

No IMHO a Latino Bobby Valentine!

I disagree.

I think Ozzie would be a great fit with the team. The Jays are undisciplined in fundamental baseball and need a manager that is not afraid to make players accountable to the team.

I also think that he will be a better communicator to many of the Latin players. It is much easier to deal/communicate with players one on one than through an interpreter.

I am not worried about his out-spoken personality - We have many of these types throughout Canadian sports.

Since the '93 World Series the manager with the best winning record in a season has been Tim Johnston...

I agree with a lot of your opinion. I like the in your face attitude and I'm sure the media would love him as he is unpredictable. I just don't think he is a good manager. I like the idea of a spanish speaking manager as he would be able to communicate with the growing number of latin players on the team.
I would rather Sandy Alomar jr be given the opportunity.

The more I think about it, the more I like Brad Ausmus. I think he would be a great fit here. No idea why, I just do.
I also like Butterfield(if he is truely interested) or Alomar Jr.

Add Matt Williams, a coach with the Arizona Diamondbacks the past three seasons, to the list of candidates to manage the Toronto Blue Jays.

Multiple reports Monday said the Diamondbacks had given the Jays permission to talk with Williams.

The 46-year-old also has interviewed for the Colorado Rockies managerial opening.

Williams, a four-time Gold Glove winner at third base during a 17-year-major league career, currently is a manager in the Arizona Fall League.

Brian Butterfield did an excellent job with the Jays . He is highly respected as a baseball teacher.
I wish him well with his new team and hope he achieves the same success the Jays had under his tutelage.

It is time for the Jays to clean house and put a new team of managers and coaches together.
