Call Display. It's a great thing.

He knocks on your door - don't answer it.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm quite good with the tools - cars, houses. Better than most contractors I've seen. There's not too much I won’t take on myself. And my friends / acquaintances know it. I get lots of requests for help. Some I'll help no problems. Others - not so much.

Usually what I'll say when I don't want to help is, "sure, I can help you, but you need to wait. I'm totally committed to this project right now (usually true) and you'll need to wait at least X months"

I don't lie, but I'm not going to drop everything I'm doing to run out and help a one way street.

The other problem I have is people seeking free advice. I'm not talking about a quick - "what would you do", but they are looking for me to tell them how to solve their engineering problems. They think because it's "just advice" that it should be free. Well, I'm in the advice business. It's how I make my livelihood. If you want to benefit from my 30 years of education and experience, you need to pay for it.

Too late now but you should have not started to help him that way from the beginning . Neighbours like that just take and take and there's no end in site .

Just politely say that your too busy right now with your own projects . If he gets upset then there's nothing you can do .

Had a neighbour who did the same thing . Neighbour #1 would always ask neighbour #2 for work favours . Finally neighbour #2 wife told Neighbour #1 to leave her husband alone . He's too busy doing his own work . Well that didn't go over well with neighbour #1 but too bad . You can't be someones GO TO GUY all the time . Especially when you've got your own work to do .

It is a blessing in disguise, from now on he will not ask you as much if any. When you see him next time, act like his blowing his top is no big deal to you
( and it is not ) Tell him you were sorry you could not help him as you just came back from the states and you need to get yard work done before it is too late. Tell it to him, as it is.

I use to know a guy like your neighbor, he use to call me all the time. I would help him as much as I could, even going out of my way. I just had to say no on one occasion. One day the fool told me that he was about to call me, but he did not. He called someone else instead. I got the message. The next two times he called me for help, I was busy. ( relaxing ) He got the message and never called back.

I have the opposite problem. I have neighbours who are or were in the trades (not all my neighbours are lesbos) and they are always offering to help and often decline money. Makes it a bit awkward for me to decline their offers of help. One time my neighbour caught me using a stranger roofer and he was quite upset I didn't call him.

People can specialize in sh*t? I didn't know that sh*t was a specialty.
Oh yea .. Shit is very big specialty . If you can't shit you die . There are many doctors that specialize in the shit canal . The doctors that scope up the shit canal get paid very well .

Shit is so special that cities build very large buildings to handle all of the shit that people flush down the toilet .

Shit can also tell you if your sick . Got the runs , can't shit properly , blood in your shit . Shit is very important .

Farmers spread shit on their fields to help grow their crops . Then they bring these crops to market so people can buy and eat the crops that were grown in shit .

Never underestimate the power of shit

sure buddy thing buddy. The next thing you'll be telling us is the Prime Minister and the President will be asking for your help. And if you are that smart then maybe you should get rid of your loathing friends.

The Prime Minister does ask me for advice. Indirectly, but he does.

But the thing is - he pays for it. And the cheque never bounces.

You forgot to mention that sh*t is also sold in large quantities for people to buy to lay out in their soil and gardens. Manure can be expensive sh*t.
