MONTREAL—Disturbing images are circulating on the Internet, showing a man apparently being run over by a taxi cab in Montreal.

A 23-year-old man was in hospital Sunday with serious but non life-threatening injuries following an overnight confrontation in a downtown district.

Police say a 47-year-old taxi driver and some of his clients are being investigated, and there could be criminal charges.

Const. Yannick Ouimet says it appears the taxi driver was having an argument with three clients and told them to get out of the taxi. One video shot by a man apparently watching the escalating dispute from a second-storey window captures yelling, swearing and several people kicking the taxi. One of the men jumps on the roof.

Moments later the taxi is seen circling back and driving right over one of the men.

The car then speeds away, down the street. Police are aware of several videos circulating online and say they are being used in the investigation.

Wow. To my eye, they should ALL be facing charges. What they were doing to that cab was outrageous, and was met by an equally outrageous over-reaction!

The cab driver may be able to claim he panicked in that final moment, but he had so many opportunities to just drive off, what the heck was he thinking? It does not look good on any of them.

If some idiot was jumping up and down on my car roof I would have floored it and let the consequences happen. I would also hire the best lawyer $$$ could buy.

Provoking a cab driver to anger is too easy. Like shooting fish in a barrel or poking a wild bear with a stick. It's easy to blame and crucify the driver in this case, but that won't solve the entire problem here.

The cab panicked? My take is the cabbie felt threatened by a group of punks (recall the Montreal riots last week?) and decided to take the high road.

I have been reading more about this story in other papers, and the more I read, the more they ALL sound like idiots.

Apparently what happened before the camera started rolling is that the driver may have kicked those guys out of his cab, one of them slammed the door really hard, the cab driver freaked out, there's some sort of confrontation, and it involves the cab ramming into a light pole. I think the junk on the ground are debris from the cab hitting the pole.

So what was going on there? Had he already tried to ram one of them?

Anyway, they ALL deserve to be locked up. The more I read about this, the more it sounds like a case of a group of thugs running into a thug driving a cab.

Go back and watch the guy who got run over. He whales on the cab 3 or 4 times and almost gets run over once before he walks straight up to the cab to pounds on the hood before getting run over. What a tool.

He's probably the type of guy who will slowly jaywalk in front of your car forcing you to brake to avoid hitting them while staring you down the whole time like they're some sort of king shit.

This will be an interesting case to watch. A taxi driver, one of least dangerous occupations (cough), is accosted/attacked/assaulted by a group/gang of 3-7 bone heads, and fearing for his well being(?), panics(?) responded in a disproportionate manner, and a nut bar get seriously hurt. I wonder if the nut bar or his pals will jump on a car again, before or after a few beers.

I think it's interesting that people are either defending the cabbie, or the pedestrians..

Personally I think everybody in this situation was an idiot..
