I am sure this question has been asked many times over the years. I'm thinking of going to Cuba. Maybe Havana. Maybe another city, but not staying in a resort. Can anyone provide information about the situation that is current i.e. within the last 6 months. The situation changes with regard to hobbying so much that older information is quite useless. I've read older threads here and on WSG. I've also been to Havana about 3 or 4 years ago, so I am somewhat familiar with the place. What I need is current info for Havana and other cities/towns like Santiago and Cienfuegos in Cuba.

Much appreciated.

What do you want to know?
I thought it was fairly obvious what I want to know from what I said in my first post, but maybe not. Let me try again.

Since I am somewhat acquainted with Havana, I'd like to know which way the political winds are currently blowing with regard to meeting ladies. Are they approachable, or are they so scared shitless that if they talk with me they will end up in jail. I am more interested in non pros than hanging out in a club til 2 am checking out the pros.

I am also interested in any information about meeting ladies outside of Havana. I won't be staying at resorts. I'll be looking for casa particulares. So again, the question is mostly related to police presence and how that will affect success rate for meeting non pros. Information about what cities/towns and what costs to anticipate would be useful. Costs, I expect, can vary quite widely, but some ballpark numbers would be good.

Id stay away from banging the locals, I'm pretty sure the jail system down there is quite nice but not what you think it is lol. I just returned from there, Varadero, we went into Havana and there was plenty of local talent but our personal tour guide from our resort said its best to bang only the tourist ladies, beside thats what most of them are there for anyway and its free, plus the upside is you dont go to jail either.

Lots of underage in Havana and they look like their in the early 20's..... BE VERY CAREFUL

How nice that Don has someone to speak up for him. And thank you for your input.

Generally speaking, I choose my words fairly carefully. I don't think my comments were offensive and I am sorry if they offended you. I thought I was being polite.

Much appreciated.

I thought my request of general information about girl action in Cuba was quite clear, and I provided additional information in an attempt to narrow the focus. That is why I said, "I thought it was fairly obvious what I want to know..." i.e. hobbying, current information, Havana, non-resort towns. I was rather puzzled by Don's follow up question and wasn't sure how to better explain myself. I doubt that there was any confusion about me wanting to know which museums or art galleries are the most interesting from a historical perspective. Even so, I acknowledged that I was perhaps not as clear as I had intended to be and tried again.

Don is free to respond, or not, as he sees fit.

I was in Havana three times last year including once in October and last week, and twice in 2010.

There is always a concern on their part that the police will apprehend them for talking to you. One girl had come to my hotel outside Havana to meet me, but had forgotten her ID card. She happened to be stopped just across the street from my hotel after getting off the bus and was picked up for not having her carne`

Quite a few of the Havana girls go to Guanabo at night to avoid the police presence in Havana. An Italian tourist was apparently robbed in Guanabo in October by some locals, the next night a bunch of undercovers on motorcycles and car loads of uniformed police descended on all the bars/clubs in Guanabo and picked up almost every Cuban girl in sight for questioning. All girls near the hotel were picked up too. Although less than Havana, most nights there was still a significant police presence, including patrol cars on both sides and in front of the clubs to check everyone coming and going. Any tourist picking up the pros usually had to pay for two taxis, one for them, the other for the girl to avoid being seen together.

When I met some girls in Old Havana, they would walk ahead of me to avoid being seen together, we went to cafes where they were out of sight from public view and felt safer. The previous October, a girl was walking beside me, crossing the street at Parque Central to show me where the bank was. I had asked her if it was okay to be seen with me in public and she said yes as she had never been in trouble with the police. As we crossed and started walking through the square, a uniformed policeman pulled her aside, and had her picked up and sent to the police station. I spent about 3 hours talking to different cops trying to persuade them she had done nothing wrong.

At times I did see tourists with local girls, I imagine they were in more permanent relationships and therefore not as worried about the police. Some of the pros didn't seem as concerned with being seen, that may have been because they were paying them off either in cash or service. A guy I met in 2010 who practically lives there now said some cops run their own girls and these girls don't worry about other cops either.

My last night there last month, a couple of Canadian guys I had met picked up some girls, tried to pay security to bring them up to their rooms. This is a hit and miss proposition. (Apparently not too long ago, a tourist illegally had a girl in his room in our hotel, claimed she stole something and called the cops. The girl and security were in trouble, this could mean jail time for both.) So, the Canadian guys were turned down and went to a nearby tourist apartment complex and paid security for a room there. As one guy walked towards the building, the cops pulled up and asked where he was going. They had apparently seen the girl's taxi outside the building. They ended up asking for some items as "gifts" The guy was originally from a middle eastern country and was terrified of getting in the car with cops, walked back to our hotel and gave them what they asked for. Needless to say, he had lost interest in continuing with the girl after that.

I was last in Cienfuegos about 4 years ago, and it was pretty much the same. Almost like a game of cat and mouse with the cops, with the girls paying the price if you get caught.

Thanks Fruity Hare. That information is very useful, although not exactly what I wanted to hear. I was hoping that things has loosened up somewhat, but it doesn't sound like it at all.

Well, I think I may go anyway, as I have other reasons for going. But I was thinking of reserving some extra time for these extra curricular activities. From what you describe, I may still do it, but maybe not so much extra time.

Thanks again.

It may sound a little bleak, but I still usually manage to enjoy myself. The biggest problem is not being able to spend time openly with many of the girls. If you meet someone and have a casa and don't mind spending a lot of time indoors with her, it's not so bad.

In October I met a nice girl, she said she was a nurse, spoke English and a few other languages. Educated, intelligent and fun to be with. She was terrified of being caught by the cops and possibly losing her job. To go out in Havana, we took a taxi from Guanabo directly to the location we were going for the evening, then afterwards another taxi from the door back home to minimize time spent together on the street. I didn't look her up in December as I just didn't want to go through all the hassles and worries again.

In December I went to one girl's home, a rarity though as many neighbours will snitch them out. Twice I bumped into gems on the side/back streets in Havana, but it's not always a smart move to be in those areas alone. Another time took a bici-taxi to a house with a girl, then had to walk back alone. I felt a little uncomfortable until I got my bearings, and this was just a few streets away from Parque Central.

If you are familiar with Havana, you will still be fine with a little caution. I just like guys to know the problems they face, and especially the bigger problems the girls will face if caught by the cops.

I just got back from havana yesterday...

The key is to make sure you stay in a casa particular, there are lots of nice ones available.
If you meet any gals in the clubs or on the street simply give them your casas address, your cell# and set a time they will be there.
Most casas have security or someone in charge to screen the girls for age and hang on to their ID's while they visit.

As a tourist you don't have to worry much as long as the girls are of age, from what I saw most of them are.
It was a little more expensive than I thought but overalll a great time.
I found one chica on the 3rd night and kept her for the balance of 7 days...a real sweetheart.

Sure...for a short time visit $50-80, all prices are negotiable. You can get the gal to stay over for the same rates. Once I secured mine I would just shoot her money daily ranging from $40-60 but she was with me the hole time.

I'm a newb there, but from what I understand you can get them cheaper.
Also make sure you negotiate with the cabbies, at $10 from our casa to downtown a 15 minute drive I was told we over paid.
Send me a IM if you want some casa info, the place we stayed was awesome, clean, very nice, great food and people.

Enjoy!!

If your heading to Varadero its worth the trip to either Matanzas or Cardenas for the night (both are a 1 hour drive). You can easily pick local (they're all SP) grab a cheap room and be back to the beach by lunch time the next day.

Sorry to change the subject a little bit here but has anyone been to Marea del Portillo lately? I had a pretty good time there but that was about ten years ago.

Was recently in Varadero... don't bother.

Food there is gross. Even in outside-the-resort restaurants on the main drag. There are a few half decent ones but really, they look at feeding tourists as slopping hogs.

Havana is stil ok, but you gotta be connected or speak spanish to get anywhere authentic. You can always go to Casa de Musica or Salon Rojo but you will just get pro's saying "waaaaannnnnn hOOOOnnnnred"

Everything is overpriced, third world goods and services for first world prices! Including the girls. WAY better here in Toronto IMHONot the paradise it used to be....
This is sad to hear. Thanks for the info.

Terrible advise.
Being careful while picking up locals in Havana or sp's that are of age & some likely to be underage in Havana is "Terrible Advice", while Cuba is full of tourist who are willing to practically throw it at you for free.

GYPSY you're either reading my reply wrong or you're in need of some help

Sorry but my experience is different. I'm returning at the end of this month. One of my partners-in-crime was there for 2 weeks in December 2011.

We know which local clubs to go (you have more choice than Hugh Hefner ever did), and we DON'T go to Casa Di Musica (my fellow banditos don't want to run into non-Cubans or tourists - they want genuine Cuban women who are gorgeous, with relatively cheap service, safe and eager to please or pamper).

You can bring them to your hotel but be prepared to pay a fee of 60 to 100 CUC per evening as a 'guest charge'. They will need I.D. to prove their age when they are registered. Some hotels will only let you bring one gal for the week (not a different one each night).

Alternatively, there are private casas or smaller apartments/hotels.

If you speak some Spanish or Italian, you will get by. As others have said, be careful about being seen in public with a 'chica' on the streets. Casual or cordial interaction at outdoor cafes is tolerable but you still should be discreet.

As for Senor Don Draper, his approach as far as I recall, is to mingle with locals in ordinary settings (clubs are like a Cuban version of a Terb Party but with dancing and music) where the hustle switch is turned off. He speaks Spanish, charms them with his wit and debonair manner and doesn't specificially transact for their companionship.
