Killex. ... I think the bans on it are not a good thing, especially when they start affecting agriculture.
For agricultural uses 'Killex' (or any non brand name chemical composition of) is allowed.
You just have to apply for a license/permit/certificate/note from mom.

Didn't they think that by banning weed control the risk for heightened allergy attacks would occur? The drug companies are making a killing off of allergy sufferers! Allergy medication ie. Claratin, Allegra etc. Should be covered under OHIPin this case!

Plan a roadtrip to one of the 3 prairie provinces and on the way back stock up on killex or one of the commercial grade weed killer concentrates ( that you mix 100:1) that are readily available at any local Co-op. Otherwise get to know the grounds crew at your golf course, one of those boys can hook you up

Crop rotation is the way to go. I'd like to see dandelions outgrow my sugar cane fields out front this year and my pineapple fields next year.Lol

Many people have adapted and pulling the weeds that they could by hand.

Homedepot has the fiskars weed remover on sale this weekend at half price($14.99).

Early birds use corn gluten early in the season as preemergent that prevents the dandelion seeds from germinating.

Many are using the safer eco friendly herbicides "weed b gone" etc with varying degrees of success.

Also cultural practices like mowing your grass as high as possible so it thrives while crowding out weed seeds from germinating.

Its a losing battle weeds and more so when neighbors are fueling it by their lack of pride and indifference.

For small areas I also like a combination of zen gardening and xeryscaping with succulents or simply using potted plants and water features on top gravel to create beautiful low maintenance gravel gardens as an alternative to lawns.

Only non-Canadians do this? They must be trying to take over Canada with their beliefs?

Fuck I am pissed at the non-Canadians who live in my Markham neighbourhood and dont maintain their lawns....overgrown now with dandelions....they let them go to seed. Do none of them know what a fucking lawn mower looks like?
Fuck they should all move to Queens Quay and live in concrete.

Back in the 50's my father, who also hated lawns, dandelions, etc... roto-tilled the front lawn and planted potatoes and cucumbers.

The neighbors were not impressed.

In our markham neighbourhood (north of 16th between 9th and kennedy) yes it is pretty much the non-canadians who do not maintain their properties. You should come and take a stroll....you can easily ID the occupants just by how the property is maintained.

Also take a look at the painted surfaces of their homes. After 7-10 years, which many of these homes are, you simply must re-paint the wood. From the amount of peeling paint you can see that these folks have no clue...which is surprising considering that these cultures place such a high value on home ownership.

As far as moving away:
1. Why should I have to do that simply because others don't maintain their property? Why should I accept my property be devalued by the laziness or stupidity of others.

The city does have rules but I know that they will not enforce them. I complained 3X last year about my neighbour who cut his grass twice last year...once in May and once in October. It was so long in the backyard that it affected the drainage from the four properties that were uphill from the catch basin. The city did dick all. The October cutting happened because he was selling and his agent told him too. He had to use a Fiskers tree loper to cut some of his weeds. He had thistles growing...I have never seen thistles since my kid days when I visited my uncles dairy farm.

2. But yes I will move in a year when the kid is done her final school year. Her school is the only reason we stay.

And yes, a side benefit of me moving elsewhere is that my car insurance will go down. I pay a $23.65 per month premium over what I would pay in Ajax / Pickering; 24.73 over Port Credit; $19.85 over the Beach. And for every quote I get I am told it is because of the drivers here. The elephant in the room is that there are a ton of Chinese drivers here and they have a higher accident rate. Simple stats.

Roundup is a lot less toxic than Killex. You actually could drink Roundup....
In the 80's I attended a city parks meeting re: use of herbicides in city playing fields. Broadleaf weeds are more slippery than grass when damp and there was a safety issue being discussed. The city's maintenance guy held up Killex and a bottle of Triaminic throat spray and read off the first few ingredients...it was a perfect match.

Man this thread is a great reminder of how fucked in the head urban and suburban dwellers really are. Out here on my sixty acres, all plants thrive in perfect harmony..my thistles, burdock, dandelions, clover. Almost forgot how bent out of shape and hostile people get in the city over nothing. neighbours watching neighbours, anal pricks fretting over yellow flowers lol

I think you should stay in Markham and run for office on an anti-chink platform. Your slogan could be "Go back where you came from, chink."

On the other hand, while you seem to be preoccupied with property values, seems to me that with all these Asian immigrants moving into Markham, the high demand would push up the property values. If all the Asians moved out, there would be tumbleweeks blowing down the streets and your house would be worth half of what it is now.

Yes. This is something all non-Canadians do. Native-born Canadians don't let dandelions grow on their lawns. It doesn't matter that most of his neighbours are probably Canadian citizens. It's obvious that we should have not only made them swear allegiance to the Queen but also swear that they'll get rid of their dandelions.

By the way, I also live in Markham and also have a problem with my Canadian (I assume this because they're not Chinese) neighbours who don't take care of their yards.

Non Canadians?
