Now, yes this guy is an idiot and a danger to society....but do we want cops that will abuse people? The real troubling thing about this one is one cop at the scene said he did not resist while the cops that beat him said he did....WTF...surely SOMEONE is lying.. and I don't see why the by stander cop would lie... in fact it is probably really hard for him to break the thin blue line.. for that I commend him. He is one of the good guys.

I thought in the old days that was SOP for police when they came across drunk drivers with attitude. Actually charging people with DUI is a more modern idea. As to which option is worse, well, I guess that depends on who one asks...

Agree. The guy is an idiot and should be locked up behind bars. Sure, he deserves a slap in the back of the head. But he practically got his skull caved in -- the injuries are beyond the norm.

Opposing views all over the place in this case.

Isn't interesting though how one cop seems to contradict the other cops statements. Hmmm...I smell a something foul here.

On the other hand it is hard to have sympathy for an individual who repeatedly drinks and drives putting us the public at harm.

I am not to worried about the drunk idiot, I am more concerened about our society with renegade cops like this running around. For every case of abuse that gets reported, there are probably 10 more that go unreported.

I respect that you might not personally be worried but suppose you get a phone call and this guy has crashed into your parents or wifes or childrens car and one of your loved ones is killed.

Of course the driver in this case would have no recollection of doing it.

I meant I am not too worried about the abuse he suffered... in this case the cops did us a service by getting him off the road..... on the other hand, they are NOT the law, just a part of it.

Okay I see I misinterpreted what you posted and I too am glad this guy is off the road.

Their methods according to this report though are excessive.

The story indicates medical examiners stated the guys injuries were minor when released. One week later he shows up with severe injuries. This seems very inconsistent.

A guy 4x the legal limit is pretty much risking death. Then he hops in a car and is doing 120 in a 60 zone. Multiple convictions for drunk driving. Whatever happened here, little doubt the guy is a pos.

Which has what to do with cops beating the hell out of a suspect that is no threat to them?

Bottom line? Bet he won't be driving drunk again!
All suspects should be beaten to a pulp. Then we can do away with the courts and all lawyers.

Wait, that is what Hitler and Stalin did.

Regardless - this guy is not some MMA guy that needs to be subdued by 3 cops and a beating to the head to get the cuffs on, that left him in acoma. This is abuse.
If you read my second post I did say that the force used seems excessive but what is concerning is this: ''In their statement of defence, the officers state that Mohamed's injuries were twice dismissed by medical examiners as “superficial.”

So how do you go from having ''superficial'' injuries to being in a a coma?

I suspect we have far from the truth here from both sides.

Actually, they said they should be shot.

But whose kidding who here, the guy was caught red-handed. Beat his ass and let him go. Will accomplish a lot more than charging him and the ensuing court battle.

In a place far, far away
The better outcome would have been for the drunkard to have killed a mother - wife. Oh and throw in a kid or two. Might as well add in a dog.

People who still drink and drive get off way too easy.

You won't get any sympathy from me.

Given that he's a drunk driver, he has no regard for anybody. Let's see if this ass kicking gets him to stop.

Yes that's the usual treatment for severe alcohol addiction. Works wonders. The guy was 4 times over the legal limit. I'm surprised he wasn't comatose. Get him off the road, take away his car, lock him up, do whatever needs be done to get him clean, and if that can't be done keep him locked up or on a very short leash. Cops have no business beating on people who pose no immediate threat.

I'm going to make some reasonable assumptions (which I can't prove) about what might make me lose it I was this cop.

I'm chasing down a drunk driver who ran a red light. My computer data may tell me he's a repeat offender. The judicial system can do nothing to stop this guy from driving drunk, because he is sick as well as a convicted criminal. In my job, I have had to deal with the outcomes of fatal accidents due to drunk driving.

I get angry and give this guy something to remember next time he has difficulty dealing with his illness.

Morally wrong, I guess so. Am I as excited about the principles of justice? Well yes, if you include rough justice and the court system. This guy was guilty times 5.....not an innocent boy scout.
