The other side of the coin is that when consumerism in China reaches the level in the US, it would be the worst environmental disaster in history of man kind. With so many people producing so much waste and carbon emissions, we are on a path to big disasters. Everyone should be more frugal, stop making so many things and spending so many things, so uncessary, all in the name of economy, and destroying the planet!

All true.

Having said that, how are you going to stop them to feel they are entitled to live their lives big/over the top like the North Americans?

Even the ladies over there are picking up the funny sh*ts like many has-been white Ladies are falling prey to and then some.

Japan's people still are among the world's richest, with a per capita income of $37,800 last year, compared with China's $3,600. So are Americans at $42,240, their economy still by far the world's biggest.

A more serious concern for communist leaders is China's income per person, which the World Bank said ranked 124th in the world last year -- more on a par with impoverished nations like Angola, Tunisia and El Salvador than Japan, which ranked 32nd, or the U.S., ranked 17th.

Me thinks its time to talk to my investment adviser.
That's a signal to cash in the profit/take some of the money off the table from China. :)

Or if you want to be brave, start to sell short TSX /ASX or Lonnie/Aussie dollar to bet the bubbles in China are going to be burst big time.

Maybe we should change our way of life. Buying bigger TVs, selling more cars, standing in line to get the latest smart phones are not going to help survivals of humanity in long run. Food, clean water, shelter, basic clothing, medicine etc.. once we have enough of the basic necessities of life, all efforts should be devoted to medical research - so we can fight future super bugs, space technology - so we can colonize other worlds when earth's resource is depleted. What's the point of spending so much on R&D and marketing on a new energy drink or iphone? total waste of resources.

True, but the mainland Chinese are simply "hungry" for everything since mid 70s, good or bad and they will do anything less than moral to get ahead.

They see the Americans as benchmark/the gold standard for "good life", whatever that is. They are committed/have big conviction to be over the top and beat the Americans on the latter own games.

That would spell doom to the rest of the world since the Americans and the Chinese are locked on an arms race to outspend resources, while the Indians are catching up fast.

Food, clean water, shelter, basic clothing, medicine etc.. once we have enough of the basic necessities of life, all efforts should be devoted to medical research - so we can fight future super bugs, space technology - so we can colonize other worlds when earth's resource is depleted.
Not in my lifetime and never fall into this kind of New Agey hype/green washing.

LOL, those IPhone and Energy drink are just another type of porn for those fans/punters to get high.

Having said that, unlike the real porn, one needs to pay a premium to get those "stuffs" to get a fix.

How do you come to that conclusion? It could maybe seen it as being bad for the U.S. if the U.S. and China engage in a wasteful arms race but that would be more of a long term thing. In terms of pure economics it is hard not to see it as a good thing.

Why do you insist on advertising your stupidity? I have already explained to you many times why only an idiot would make the posts you make but you seem love making a fool of yourself. To make things even funnier, at times you even post things by Krugman who has made a lot of money books explaining why people like you are idiots. Make him some more money by buying one of them. If you read it you will learn something and be too embarrassed to come back and make more posts.

A number of reasons but since Professor Peter Morici of the University of Maryland has already put many of them in print. I refer you to his works.
