Lost electricity in my neighborhood today. I couldn't heat up any food so I went out and bought at KFC -Spicy chicken burger combo and iced tea instead of their self-serve soft drinks. They charge $1 extra for the bottled iced tea. It came to $10.15

There was barely any food. The fries and burger went down the hatch and I was still hungry.

My average grocery bill is $100 - $120 per week, $150 max.

If I ate KFC 3 times a day I'd spend $213.15 per week on food, not including snacks.

I don't drink coffee, don't drink alcohol (only socially), and I don't smoke either. More wastes of money and unhealthy habits that are absolutely retarded.

Being unhealthy is an expensive lifestyle. You want to tighten the purse strings during this recession? Eat at home you unhealthy piece of shit.

You should have gone to the grocery store instead, you might have lucked out with getting melting ice cream for half price.

You're right about how expensive fast food is these days, I bet a lot of poor families eat there too often because they can't cook a good healthy meal.

I know in the last 2 years the price of fast food has slowly crept up......and the portions have gone down.Check out the 10 stick Kit kat 2 months ago and now....fuckers shrunk it.They used to have Cola sales all the time in corner stores...now it's 1.69$ to 2.00$ dolars firm.I've actually cut back alot because of it.

The corellation between our growing rate of obesity and our inability to fed ourselves is shocking. We always knew Fast Food wasn't good for us but it was cheap... right? Now a Quarter Pounder from McDonalds is close to $5 and a Sub from Subway at $7 is considered a good deal and a "healthy" option. Jamie Oliver's latest venture took him down into the States and what he found shocked even him. He discovered a Nation hooked on Fast Food, terrible Ready Made Meals in Grocery Stores and families that had no idea how to cook even the simplest meal.

http://www.ted.com/talks/jamie_oliver.html

We here in Canada like to think that we aren't as bad as those in the U.S. but we are deluding ourselves. Meals that are high in sodium, saturated fats and carbohydrates are killing us. Sure, a trip to DQ or Mcdonalds once in a Blue Moon is okay, but we know that we shouldn't do it. We can feel the changes that happen to us as we eat the damn things. Like having a sip of a cocktail or a puff of a cigarette, this kind of food entices us to consume more even as we are actually thinking that those last 2 or 3 bites were 2 or 3 too many. Our Health costs just might soon reflect our waistlines soon if we aren't careful.

Actually you wouldn't be dead - you hope you would be dead after you had a stroke shortly after having a heart attack which is caused by the vomitting in between bouts of the shits :D

You went to KFC and spent that.

You could have stopped at any number of grocery stores and purchased a meal from the deli bar cheaper and healthier.

Just the other day, I was in a metro and bought freshly made subs 4 for 5.99. 6 inch subs, was a good buy. I already had tomato, pickles etc. Fast food is a rip off.

That's not enough food.

I prefer two pieces of home cooked chicken breasts (real full chicken breasts, not packaged stuff) and a half plate full of rice + tap water and a small dessert.

AFAIK, Canadian fast food restaurants don't have the dollar menu like in the states.

$1 for double cheeseburgers at Mickey D's, vs. fruit at a grocery store, which is expensive, non-filling, and inconvenient (i.e. you need to wash it, slice it, etc.).

No, I'm not defending this, and this has got nothing to do with me.

But for poor people with kids, I can certainly understand it.

I know two guys that live off fast food. We're talking easily $30-50 a day is spent on food. It's a shame to see so much money wasted and they're huge as fuck.

Looking at them really makes the case that fast food can be as unhealthy and costly as cigarettes.

Yep Fastfood is expensive but you pay for the convenience.

Some people are too busy to cook or they don't know the first thing about how to begin cooking a meal.

There are some healthier choices at food courts now that have grilled meats including grilled salmon. Meals without a drink are around $8 plus taxes.

I don't usually buy fastfood but sometimes on weekends I do. This past weekend I bought Chinese and it may be the bean sprouts or pork which I don't eat much that gave me the runnings.

Bought some Teriyaki the next day and did not taste too great.

In both cases it ended up in the garbage which is an even bigger waste.

Reminds me why I not only cook my own food to save money, but also to suit my own taste.

But it's not just fast food.... eating out anywhere is more expensive than buying groceries and preparing the same meal yourself. You're paying for convenience after all.

98% of the time, I eat at home. Not that frozen food crap either. Real food, fresh veggies and fruit. When I do eat out, its not at the fast food chains mentioned above. I'd never eat that shit. When I was younger, I wasn't so careful though.
