In Italy you don't get to be on tv unless your hot. All the tv shows, even the sports shows have at least a couple of very good looking girls. I was told that all the participants of the beauty pagents eventually get a contract to do tv shows. That one weather girl I think won or was runner up and now she's on tv doing something that I dought she is qualified for.
After spending months in Italy and watching tv or going out I have noticed these things and I had to ask the locals why these hot girls were in these position even if they had no experience. I was told that if you had to deal with public then appearance was more importtamt then qualification. WOW
Hypno, I haven't had the luck of an extended stay in Italy but I got the feeling part of the Italian-wide mantra is about presentation, giving a good impression ("fare buona figura" or in the South "fari 'na bona figura"
), and religiously doling out greetings and formalities. The last part is very refreshing compared to a big indifferent city like Toronto where people don't acknowledge others unless money or a transaction is involved. I get the sense most of these girls on these news and games shows are from, or try to look like, they're Northern Italian--which is a completely different country from the South with more stereotypically brunette, "Mediterranean-looking" women. I almost cried because I've never seen so many attractive brunette women who are my type in one place in my life.
