I'm not talking about direct deposits or cheques that people give you
from what ever money you make in any job. I always know my balance on
how much money I have in my checking and savings accounts I even update the bank book.
Just recently I had $200 extra! So I just said to myself well okay then!

Do you think this money was suppose to go into someone else's account?
Banks can find out after a few weeks & they will trace it and take it back out of your account?

Yes definitely.

Many years ago the bank deposited 600 in my account. I made a mistake and told them about it. To thank me they withdrew it twice because their had bee a miss postiong 6 months ago I then had to prove to them that it hadn't been deposited into my account both times.

Just proves no good deed remains unpunished.

About 15 years ago the bank deposited $300,000 in my account by mistake.
4 days later they reversed it + the interest I had accumulated in that 4 day period. You can't get away with anything!

I Would

Immediately go to the bank..withdraw the funds..close out the account and disappear from that bamk altogether.

Oh sure they might chase you...dependant on the amount....But you now hold the cards (money)

It's going to take them about 24 hours to fix the glitch no doubt. Happened to me once a few years ago ... At 12 midnight, the money was gone ... easy come .. easy go! :(

Never had extra in my account, but twice I've gotten more than I asked for from an ATM and it never got caught.

people have tried this and after the bank proves it is not theirs they are arrested for theft.

what you should do is double check your records and if you are sure it is not yours just let it sit there. if they take it out make sure they do not take more than they should.

after a few years of it sitting there you may need to close your account or change the number for some reason. at that point it is yours and if they come after you claim ignorance.

No extra money in the bank account, but twice now at the LCBO, the clerk forgot to scan my 2nd 1.5 litre bottle of Absolut. ($53.00)

Same clerk too. First time I told her. Second time....the LCBO can afford it.

Maybe it was because I had it in one of those re-usable cloth bags.:D

Bank book? I haven't used a bank book in ages.
I hope you're not one of those that update their book at the bank machines.

Not with a bank account by I did beer and gave the bartender $10 and received $14.75 back. The bartender didn't notice the mistake so I said nothing.

Nope... but I had the reverse happen once...

Was at one of those stand alone drive thrus, late at night... it was the dead of winter during a pretty good storm, e.g. blowing snow, really farkin cold! Did the normal procedure, insert card, punch in the #'s etc. it confirmed the amount, even gave me the slip, but no money came out! WTF?!

I called the # on my bank card right away, and they said they would have to an investigation because accoring to their transaction record- I had just taken $200 out of my account! It took a couple days, but they redeposited my $200. Turns out the dispencer was frozen!
