This, by far, is the best pasta dish I've ever had (even better than most restaurants).

If you have the time, please make it. I guarantee it will be worth it!

US METRIC
INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
8 ounces penne pasta
1/4 cup butter
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 red bell pepper, diced
1/2 pound portobello mushrooms, diced
1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 (16 ounce) jar Alfredo sauce
1/2 cup grated Romano cheese
1/2 cup cream
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or more to taste
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup chopped parsley

DIRECTIONS
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.
Meanwhile, melt butter together with the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in onion, and cook until softened and translucent, about 2 minutes. Stir in garlic, red pepper, and mushroom; cook over medium-high heat until soft, about 2 minutes more.
Stir in the shrimp, and cook until firm and pink, then pour in Alfredo sauce, Romano cheese, and cream; bring to a simmer stirring constantly until thickened, about 5 minutes. Season with cayenne, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir drained pasta into the sauce, and serve sprinkled with chopped parsley.

can you use something else besides shrimp?

Sure, you could use chicken too. I've never tried it like that, but I'm sure it will turn out great. If someone told me that this was from a four for five-star restaurant, I would believe it!!

Just a warning. The dish is a bit spicy, so if you don't like spicy food, than you should eliminate the hot pepper. I recommend adding half the amount and then add more if you want.

Like many other dishes, this is even better the next day. Guaranteed to get you laid if you make it for a girlfriend!

Interesting combination of prepared food (Alfredo in a jar) and real cooking (all the other ingredients). I may try it as is, or I may go with my own recipe for alfredo sauce. I normally wouldn't buy alfredo in a jar, but with the other ingredients to jazz it up, it sounds great. Thanks Stinky. So did you make this for your waitress girlfriend, and did it get you laid?

Nope, I didn't have this recipe at that time. :( Wish I did!

Definitely one of the top dishes I've ever had...
