There are a couple apps that let you download and save UTube music video clips to HDD.
In some ways UTube is becoming like Napster/Kazaa where you can find hard to get music files and some have high quality sound. My question is once you save one of these music file videos, is there a way to 'rip' the audio out and convert it to mp3 file?

Thanks.

I'm runing Ubuntu 8.10 and just checked their 'Add & Remove' section to find that Audacity is listed there. All I had to do is checkmark Audacity, and Ubuntu auto downloaded and installed the linux version for me..... it took < 1 minute!
I just opened Audacity up and it looks like a neat app. It gets a great '5 Star' rating.

rip

The question is.. were you able to rip a flv file for its audio?
changed to mp3.
Did it work for you?
or did Audicty couldn't recognize the file?

No, not yet.
Was just fooling around with Audicty.
I downloaded a couple video mp4 files off UTube using KEEPVID, they sound/play great.

I can drag & play mp3 files with Audicty but when I drag those video mp4 files in, an error says:

"video mp4 is" an Advanced Audio Coding file.
Audicty cannot open this file.
You need to convert it to a supported audio format, such as WAV or AIFF.

This was the first time using Audicty....
Haven't tried converting them to WAV or AIFF yet.

Just figured it out and DID IT!
What a pain in the arse though.....probably because I don't really know what I'm doing, first attempt at this sort of thing. Didn't even have to use Audicty, lol.

Started out in Ubuntu then finished off in Vista using Nero8.
Downloaded and saved a music video mp4 file off UTube using KEEPVID. Ripped the audio off as a WAV file using a linux app. Had problems converting that WAV to mp3 with linux for some reason so I dragged it into the Vista partiton. Then switched to Vista and used Nero8 to convert the WAV file to a 320bitrate mp3 and it sounds great.

I'm sure there's and easier way but end result, you can rip audio off music UTube clips and save them as any format you want with great quality provided the original UTube source was good.

Fwiw

It's easy to save a UTube Video/Music clip then convert it to an mp3, or a couple other formats you may prefer.

First you save a UTube clip to your HDD using 'KeepVid' which saves them as a mp4 file.

Then I used a neat linux app 'Sound Converter' which converts it directly into mp3, or a few other formats of your choice, at whatever quality level bitrate or VBR you choose.
You just have to install the needed mp3 & lame codecs into Sound Converter.

Thanks, that's a pretty neat app. It works on XP but not Vista or Ubuntu.

Was able to use it to capture as mp3s, this whole bossa nova album 'Natural' by Celso Fonseca e Cibelle Cavalli, (http://www.celsofonseca.com.br/sec_discografia_view.php?id=6) that cancowboy2001 gave a link to when searching for that female Brazilian singer that did the duet in, Ela é carioca. They are both excellent singers and so is that album. Those aren't samples in that link, they are full songs of very good quality, as are all the other albums listed in that link....;)
