Any fellow bedbug haulers out there? Or have experience or ideas to share?

I recently got invovled in the marketing and promoting of a long haul moving company. We only do long haul province to province 500kms or more.

Before you say google etc... been there done that. All those so called 'lead providers' are full of it... not very usefull at all.

In the summer... this biz is so busy we have to turn jobs away... but right now it's so slow... like the whole market is frozen... just like the weather outside.

HELP!

Just ask those BestPrice Movers people in Scarborough to use their phone guys with the thick EE accents to make pre-recorded messages for you.

Those guys were a real riot - their rambling messages in bad English were like something out of Satuyrday Night Live, especially "Janosz"! They suck so bad you are perversly drawn to listen to the whole thing. I saved it on my voicemail for 15 months and played it to some people for laughs - a couple of them ended up booking that company when time came to move!

It's been good to know ya
I'll most likely get laughed right off of terb for saying this but, kijiji and craigs list. People do post ads for everything under the sun in these places anyhow.

I'll probably be cursed off terb for this, but I won't give away my trade secrets on the board for free. This is what I do for a living. If you like, you can PM me and we can try to arrange something.

When I was in school, spent a lot of time moving buddies here and there. During one of these moves we were all particularly trashed. For the next buddies move, along with beer and other mood altering treats he had t-shirts made up, they read "stoned or drunk, we'll move your junk". Nite Hawk feel free to use this slogan, no charge.;)

Make a deal with home cleaning companies in key cities to offer clients discount cleaning service in their destination city or locally for your clients.

A good place to get marketing info is Stats Canada. They have statistics on EVERYTHING! Perhaps their numbers could ignite some ideas.

Do you only do residential? If not, watch MERX.com for government contracts for moving services. Especially for public works and military contracts. Its good off-season work.

I am currently selling my house and have received a card from a mover.

Obviously he;'s got a connection to a Real Estate agent who gives him leads...

Market to realtors. Send flyers to office and ask that one be given to eash agent. They send us flyers daily, time to get even. Alternatively, e-mail all Realtors in your taget market. Once set up the list can e-mail monthly very easily.

Also promote to builders.

Thanks everyone...

Some of these ideas we have tried b4.

Lots of moving companies of course network with Real Estate industry. Most of the time they promise the world and do nothing. You need to network with someone you know personal or offer too much kick back. If any realtors on here like my contact info... pls see my Facebook profile or PM me.

Ads on Criags/Kijiji etc I am working on. Be done this week-end.

We mostly do only household moves however will consider commercial or gov moves for the right price. Most time large corps want to deal with major van lines and get deep discounts. We are here to make money not to make slaves out of our drivers and labour guys. All our staff are real pros with many yrs experience and you all know the old saying... you get what you pay for. I will check out MERX.com though... for sure.

We are networking with local movers here in Ottawa and I am working on more connections in GTA. If you have any contacts... by all means pls forward my way. Thanks.

I like the nude packers idea... I only wish. <LOL>

When we do a move... we put 'runners' through out the whole house and when we leave it is spotless.

I'm gonna google BestPrice movers... just for laughs. <LOL>

Thanks all... keep 'em coming. TheNiteHwk. :)

I still think most people look into yellowpages. All the other methods are just bonus, but I think you need to have a presence on yellowpages or else you are just considered fly-by-night.

Discount massage with every move. Therapeutic or otherwise depending on the client... Moving is stressful.

Free transit pass, draw for Sens package, free beer and pizza - just like having your friends move for you.

Female mover to handle the "delicate" packages... ;) (Sorry it is a Review board.)

Something that makes the moving experience all the more smooth/human/civilized for the customer - perhaps a gift card to a meal in the new city, or each truck has a tv and Wii that can be set up first in the new house to keep the kids entertained while the truck is being unloaded.
