It's in men's genes to want younger youthful females. It goes against evolution for a guy to prefer an older woman, since younger females are more fertile. Most men would therefore prefer to mate with a young female 18-22 over a woman who is over 35.
Can't go along with your reasoning, VB.
In all other species, the males have evolved to screw any female (in heat), irrespective of age. Only in humans do males prefer young, just-become-fertile, females. Why the difference?
Human males have evolved to prefer smooth skin and firm breasts and large hip to waist ratio, in females. (You may have noticed this). Why those things? - It's not because they are the markers of being fertile -- it's because they are the hard-to-fake markers of being
young.
The evolutionary reasoning goes like this.
In humans, two parents together have a much better chance of raising children to maturity than the mother on her own, mainly because of the enormous time it takes to raise a human, compared with other species. So, the men whose genes make them want to make long-term relationships with women leave the most offspring.
But if your genes make you prefer older women, your long-term relationships won't be so long! So you won't leave so many offsring.
So, it's because the raising-offspring time, in humans, is so long, and so demanding of two committed long-term parents, compared with other species, that human males have evolved to prefer "high-quality" young women.
It's because men are primarily interested in making long term relationships that our hearts beat faster when we perceive the aforesaid markers of female youth.
