It means that it was near inevitable that Israel would announce a cease fire before Obama was sworn in, not because he helped bring about any deal but because the Israelis don't really know what his policy will be and are trying to play it safe.fuji said:It's unclear what it means yet. It looks like they are going to keep the army inside Gaza for now and say they will resume the attacks if the rocket launches resume.
It's hard to imagine that Hamas will stop launching rockets.

I made the same prediction in another thread before you started yours OTB, and I don't recall I tried to suggest it would be because Obama might try to broker a deal either. Get over yourself.onthebottom said:And that OTB is a genius![]()
OTB
It isn't, but they stopped purely to see what Obama would do or not do, since they don't really have a clue. The only thing they know for sure is that he won't give them the same carte blanche that George did.Don said:It means absolutely nothing... other than a PR move. Their requirements for a cease-fire is for Hamas to stop fighting. But Isreal says they will keep troops in Gaza. Hamas says they will keep fighting as long as troops are in Gaza. Don't look promising to me.
Apparently not carte blanche with those reports about Bush turning down a request to raid Iran.Asterix said:It isn't, but they stopped purely to see what Obama would do or not do, since they don't really have a clue. What it will do is make it crystal clear who the real aggressor is if Hamas continues fighting after Israel stops.Don said:It means absolutely nothing... other than a PR move.
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1056134.htmlHamas said late Saturday that it reserves the right to continue resisting Israel "with all means" if Jerusalem does not follow up its ceasefire with a withdrawal from Gaza and lifting the blockade on the territory, a Hamas official said on Saturday.
"The Israeli declaration is not enough," Ali Barakeh said in the Syrian capital.
That is a bit artificial given Israel has been shelling the crap out of them, and admittedly hitting targets not associated with Hamas. Israel has enforced an 18 month economic blockade that crippled the region, and now there are tens of thousands homeless and thousands killed or maimed.fuji said:What it will do is make it crystal clear who the real aggressor is if Hamas continues fighting after Israel stops.
Targets not associated with Hamas? Who told you that, Ban Ki Moon, who doesn't give a shit about the millions dead in North Korea (to play devil's advocate, literally)? Every explosion without Hamas unconditionally surrendering IS a target fully associated with Hamas. That's it, there is no negotiation, no debate with that fact. Hamas is responsible for all of it. They are terrorists. They oppress their people. They kill their own. They attack Israel.Garrett said:That is a bit artificial given Israel has been shelling the crap out of them, and admittedly hitting targets not associated with Hamas. For all that, Hamas would be the real aggressor for fighting back?
What planet do you guys come from?? The aggressor is still militarily stationed INSIDE Gaza, killed nearly 1200 people, created a humanitarian disaster and still continues its blockade. Or do you think the aggressor will be the now wounded Gaza leadership that no longer has control of the rocket rage of rebel organizations such as Islamic Jihad? God forbid a 4th Israeli civilian is by chance killed.fuji said:What it will do is make it crystal clear who the real aggressor is if Hamas continues fighting after Israel stops.
Nobody expects Hamas to stop and that's because we all know that they are blood-thirsty murderers hell bent on the destruction of Israel who have no interest whatsoever in any lasting peace.
Was it the Hamas or Hezbollah leader who said it was good Jews were migrating to Israel because it will save them the trouble of hunting them down worldwide?
On this planet Hamas is the one that has fired upwards of 6000 rockets at innocent civilians, and as a charter that calls for genocide.*d* said:What planet do you guys come from?? Get real!

You might want to visit us here on Earth again some day.
But in reality (here on earth) its only the innocent civilians of Gaza that have actually suffered to the level of genocide.fuji said:On this planet Hamas is the one that has fired upwards of 6000 rockets at innocent civilians, and as a charter that calls for genocide.

Bullshit. You are trivializing genocide. Nothing even remotely close to that has happening. People like you who water down words make me sick to my stomach: Do you have absolutely no respect for what the victims of a real genocide experienced?*d* said:But in reality (here on earth) its only the innocent civilians of Gaza that have actually suffered to the level of genocide.
