I am sorry to say that there are some members here who feel that name-calling and insults are more important than good, honest debate or discussion.
I recently received several PM's from some of TERB's more intolerant members which did not dispute fact with fact or point with point but instead were filled with nothing but unnecessary slurs, smears and assorted insults. Since none of these messages were of a threatening nature, I simply deleted them. I have not forwarded them to the mods, something I would not have done anyway since I've been threatened before for my beliefs (not on the TERB, of course) and I really don't take them very seriously.
It would seem there are certain subjects that some members have decided cannot be discussed fairly and openly, some groups which cannot be criticized or called to account or some ideas or opinions which cannot be expressed.
While I have never sent nasty PM's to people, I will admit that there have been a few times when I, myself, have resorted to name calling and the odd insult but I've always regretted it later and have honestly tried to avoid that kind of behaviour whenever possible. Of course, I was very tempted to fire a barrage back in this case but then I realized that that is not what I'm here for.
From now on then, I will no longer post on the TERB. I will check out the reviews and assorted hobbying information periodically when I need to but the aggravation that seems to come with debating controversial subjects is something I really don't need anymore.
