My instinct here is that, with some investigation (something mainstream left leaning journalists are not known for), it will turn out that what has been cut is the supply of bottled water in the court rooms. I sincerely doubt that they have shut off the drinking fountains! My guess is that water will still be available to witnesses - by the glass. As to tissues, I think it will also be revealed that toilet paper still exists in the washrooms. It may be a little known fact, but toilet tissue can actually double as facial tissue!

So when the 13 year old rape victim breaks down in sobs on the witness stand, your solution would be to have her run to the bathroom and use toilet paper to dry her eyes?!

You think that encourages rape victims to come forward or does much for the dignity of the justice system?

I think with some foresight she could be provided with a glass of water and/or some tissue as she takes the stand, or it could be handed to her from the counsel table if she needs it. I think most lawyers will be able to figure this out. I don't think the justice system, or its dignity, will suffer for it. Talk about 1st world problems! Didn't most tribunals in Ontario already stop providing bottled water years ago in response to concerns about tampering?
