Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Ric Ocasek, lead singer of the rock band The Cars, died Sunday in New York at age 75.

Police said they received a call around 4 p.m. for an unconscious male at a townhouse on East 19th Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Law enforcement sources confirmed the deceased was Ocasek.

Ocasek and his band were inducted into the Rock Hall in 2018. The institution described the band as "hook-savvy with the perfect combo of new wave and classic rock."

The band had 13 top-40 singles, including radio staples like "Good Times Roll" and "Just What I Needed," and Ocasek went on to a successful producing career after The Cars broke up in the late 1980s.

Can't quantify how many times I've listened to Candy-O.

I guess they are all going to pass but it still hits me when I hear the news.

The Cars were tight, I considered them the anti - Yes. There were no grand progressions to their songs, they were catchy and direct.

Rick and Paulina hooked up while making the video for Drive. They are both of Czech heritage. The irony is Ocasek neither wrote or sung that song, the credit belongs to Benjamin Orr who passed away at the age of 53 at the start of the century.

Paulina was so good in the video that I thought it would lead to an acting career, she's 18 years younger than Rick...and very rich.

Benjamin Orr and Roger Taylor were separated at birth.

happ you're more of a cazzelino than Cazzelino.

The CBC got it wrong, Rick Ocasek was 70 when he passed away, at 75 that would make him as old as Randy Bachmann.

Although The Cars owe a debt of gratitude to the Canadian. Ocasek was having problems getting his music published when Bachman - Turner Overdrive came out. At that time Album Rock was all about Yes, Genesis and The Strawbs. Led Zeppelin started to produce less blues based and more progressive rock albums. BTO changed the landscape with Ocasek and The Cars finally getting their record deal. Ocasek is older than Bruce Springsteen, The Boss got published when he was 24, Ocasek was almost 30.

The Cars opened for BTO before their first album was released, then they did a solo gig at The Edge - now long gone. Win over Toronto and the rest of North America will follow.

Randy Bachman famously said, "you can't dance to Yes", he must have liked what he heard.

He did very good with this beautiful life-long surgarbaby. If they were young and married today, it would last 2-5 years tops.

Well.

There were TWO tickets to paradise.
I like what you did there. Adding a little levity is always a good thing. :)

The Cars were such a big part of my life. Great songs that never get old. RIP

First it was Eddie Money, celebrity deaths almost always come in 3's, who's next?

Won't be Keith Richards!

Mick Jagger?-didn't he have heart problems recently?
