Why is Israel not expected to comply with UN Resolution 242?

As you admit, part of the problem people don't always separate their thoughts on Israel from those on Jews (as is most evident to me in the amount of criticism Israel gets while other countries far worse are ignored. We don;t see large scale campaigns to boycott Saudi Arabia, China, or Russia for example. Simply criticism of Israel is based on anti-semitic ideas often enough that the question will come up even when it isn't the basis.[/QUOTE]

That's a valid point, and it gave me pause to consider it.
The only reasons I can think of is this.
In terms of Israel, this conflict has gone back to just after WWII, the duration and dynamics of it give it a unique dimension.
As well, Jews have been, integrated into our culture way more significantly than the others, in terms of business, politics,
intellectually, the arts, our Judeo -Christian heritage. Jews are way more on the map.
The reality of AIPAC, by virtue of its size and influence and how it impacts decision making is an issue for non Jews and Jews alike.
If somebody stands up to them, candidates don't support the status quo, they get the shit kicked out of them. I don't think that's a secret.

With Russia, we were at war with them, hot and cold until 1990, and really nobody condones anything they do.
With Saudi Arabia, we get nothing but oil, nothing else to boycott.
The Yemen crisis is relatively young and I think the US has cut off support of arms for this, and I don't think anyone is happy with
them about everything else, nobody defends them.
China, other than Tibet, which they took flack for, I don't know. Nobody defends them either.
Israel is kind of an extension of us, by virtue of the Jewish community.
The experience is more visceral with Israel because of this.
That's all I can come up with, let me know if you think I'm on or off with this.

As far as me saying I wasn't Jewish, it was part of giving some context and laying a groundwork to express a non Jewish perspective.
Having skin in the game or not is huge, but it doesn't preclude either side from being right and wrong
in different ways. Nothing other than that.

That's interesting because I don't think the Palestinians were holding election forty years ago. So I guess that makes two of us who aren't experts. Here I thought we were having a good discussion and you want to snipe.

Let's just assume that this has been said about Palestinian elections for forty years. I'm not sure that makes the argument any less relevant. I think jcpro makes a point about the secular Jewish majority not having a biblical view that Israel needs to takeover their ancient lands.
Oh brother....
I pulled 40 years out of the air to make a point about how dated your point was.
Ironically, I was being sarcastic about your lack of expertise about Israeli politics, because you downplayed it.
As for the rest, I'm not even sure what you're talking about, jcpro and I had our discussion, it's fine as far
as I'm concerned. No need to stir things up....or snipe.

I think you are misconstruing some of my comments. It's hard to explain context this far along in the thread. Let's just agree to disagree.

The fact that the resolution is from 1967 is kinda the point, genius. The Israelis (with the backing of the US) have snubbed their nose at the world community for the past 50+ years.

What were they thinking? Were they figuring we’d all just forget about it after awhile if they just blow through that resolution and ignore it? The Palestinians don’t seem to have forgotten.

You left out the part about of the Palestinian Hamas members constantly firing rockets at Israel and swearing to wipe Israel off the map.
You left out the part that Hamas was created by Israel to undermine PLO, the same way that Al-Qaeda was created by US.

I think maybe we could just agree that you are a bigoted, white supremacist with a special burning hatred for Islam. I think that covers most of the territory you travel.
LOL! Burning hatred?? It's why the Arabs keep failing. One needs to harness cold fury to be effective because hatred makes you blind.

And what is it that you have been so effective at...other than convincing all who read your posts that you’re a flaming Islamophobe. I think we’re gonna have to stick with “burning hatred.”

Sorry not sorry.

Well considering the Arabs in the region started it, and got their asses handed to them, I'd say it belongs to Israel now.

All they had and have to do is say the words to end all of this.

How’s that plan working out?

For the Israelis just fine. They have the land, are building, and making the desert bloom. They have strong allies, a democracy, are cutting edge in tech, medicine, and other industries.

For the Palestinians, who were betrayed by their Arab Neighbours and left to rot and be used as a photo op, and then subjugated by first the PLO and the Hamas not so well.

They took aid and spent it on weapons, took building materials and made rockets. They send children to die and then take pictures and video nicely staged for propoganda. They drag people through the street Behind motorcycles and are oppressed by their own leaders. They have no democracy, no infrastructure, no industry.

They have wasted 70 years fighting a losing battle because their false prophets past and present told them lies.

I think that sums it up nicely.

Excellent points. I guess if you’re Israel it’s working out fabulously.

It would be better to solve it. Jordan made peace with them. Egypt did as well. Lebanon is back and forth.

And even Saudi Arabia has pretty much given up, had cursory diplomatic relations and allows Israeli civilian planes to fly through Saudi air space.

The Israelis have to waste resources on the idiocy if the Palestinian leadership. All because of the stubbornness and regional aspirations of the Mullahs in Iran.

That's probably what South Africa said as well.
The problem is that Israel has no viable plan forward except apartheid.

And of course, you totally back Sanders position on this issue, not Trump, right?
