This ^^^. Years ago I had a roommate who was a mechanic at Canadian Tire doing piecework. One of his customers worked for TTC and got him a job there. He told me they'd sleep on night shift while one of them kept lookout for supervisors. Our fares hard at work. There is so much fucking wastage in that organization - no amount of subsidy or fare hikes will ever help them.

So should we stop funding highways, roadways, airports, sea ports, train stations, etc with public money then? Privatization of highways, transit, etc simply does not work the way we've done it in Ontario. We've given companies far too much leeway in gouging customers without no recourse. And it should stay that way. Tax payers shouldn't have to flip the bill for public transit.
You should subsidize it even more or deal with adding millions more vehicles to our roads and the resulting traffic chaos.should be an increase of $10.00 I haven't taken transit in 20+ years why should I subsidize it? you take it YOU should pay the actual cost so for instance when the liberal carbon tax kicks in add it to each fare every time the union gets increase to wage or benefits pass it on to fares
Seriously?I don't use public transit enough to warrant a Presto card IMO but will have to put more plastic into this world by getting one when they eliminate tokens. I plan to donate any excess tokens I have near the end of the year to a homeless person.[/COLOR]
With all the shitty drivers on the road, I somehow doubt that.Especially in Ontario where drive test centered are known to fail people to make money on retesting

In the distant future, we'll be able to pay for transit using our phones. Just in time for phones to be obsolete and we'll have them implanted in our heads. I think they've been testing paper Presto cards, but there's still a waste problem since you have circuits inside.
You're actually worried about putting the minimal amount of plastic contained in a PRESTO card into the environment? The PRESTO card is made of plastic but has no expiry date. So in theory, you only need one in your lifetime.
I curtail putting plastic into the world when and where I can (e.g. reusing plastic shopping bags until they rip, then recycling them, etc.). People loose things and have to replace them so it's not a one time only situation for all. Although not perfect, paper cards would be a better alternative. You're actually worried about putting the minimal amount of plastic contained in a PRESTO card into the environment? Compare that to the number of condoms and wrappers you go through on a yearly basis, which end up in landfill!
