I can't help to notice how great Ottawa-Gatineau strip bars are in comparison to other locations in quality and prices everytime I travel (usually to Montreal). I visited a few bars along Saint Catherine street while I was there again in my most recent visit.
Take Chez Paree on Stanley for example. You have to pay for everything except maybe breathing the air is free. A cover charge for entrance, then another mandatory charge because the bouncer shows you the seat (even when they are all available) and then you order drink and tipping the waitress at least 15% is mandatory (I heard the conversation between the waitress and two poor female clients that the waitress was shouting at the female patrons at Chez Paree as why they come there and that the $1 tip is not enough and it has to be at least 15%) as the poor waitresses are not being paid at all and their entire income comes from the tips. In other words clubs not only exploiting the dancers but waitresses too and making huge profit for drinks three times the usual market price.
If you decide to take a dancer t the CR then there is another $5 to the club (now at almost all Montreal strip bars). In other words not only the clubs hurt the dancers' incomes by this fee but they won't pay a dime to dancers. Then dances are $15 per song at Chez Paree (and $10 per song at club downtown) which is called contact dances but absolutely no kissing as those clubs have cameras in the CR monitoring from what I heard at club downtown. If you have to go to the bathroom at Chez Paree then there is a well dressed guy in the bathroom who first compliment you what a great gentleman you are with two paper towels on your shoulders only to demand a $5 mandatory tip even for going to the bathroom. The $10 dances at club Downtown ($15 first song) are in my experience a waste of money. No wonder I noticed most dancers were not making money. To make matters worse one club tried to raise it to $20 per song at (Super Sex) 2 years ago but they didn't survive very long.
I spent two hours at Chez Paree and another two hours at club Downtown and it cost me three times my usual weekend time at any Ottawa club and not even one-third as much fun where dances are only now $5 more but much more intimate (for me lots of hugs and kisses) and significantly more fun. I hear that in the US as well, strip clubs are very restrictive. Some dancers are very pretty at the two mentioned clubs (Chez Paree and club Downtown only after 9:00 pm) however, this is not the case with other two surviving strip bars where I did not stay (Cleopatra and Sex appeal, the latter being empty at 5:00 pm on Friday and the former having some much older dancers). Though Montreal strip bars maybe no comparison to Ottawa's however, Montreal nightlife in general is also no comparison to boring Ottawa in a very positive way.
While Montreal downtown is thriving with dance bars and night clubs though lively Montrealers decided to make public streets a big night club as Crescent Street had become a big public dance club with young boys and girls some together but many with a group of friends dancing on street. Quite frankly It appears so easy to meet a girl in Montreal as many are available and looking and many absolutely beautiful. Montreal is also a SUCCESS and Model for racial harmony that many cities across the globe in particular in US and Europe (United Kingdom in particular) can learn as crowd of mix races are friends with each other enjoying each others' company and live in peace and love. Vive Le Montreal. The city of "heaven on earth" is indeed my favorite place to live.
Going back to NCR strip bars, gentlemen please support your Ottawa-Gatineau strip bars and the dancers who dance there so that they stay open and active. Otherwise you cannot get such heavenly experience anywhere else definitely not within driving distance
