I caught a brief clip on CNN talking about a new video game in which you kill cops. This brought on a discussion about violence in video games. One side argued that first-person shooters absolutely contribute to violent tendencies, citing the military's use of them to train its soldiers to kill without thinking. The other side argued there is no link between violent video games and killing in real life.
The point of this post is not to debate that argument. My point is this:
If you agree that killing in video games is okay b/c it's "just a game" and doesn't lead someone to kill, then would you be okay with video games that depict rape and child molestation (let's say, for points). If not, why? If murdering people is okay, why aren't other crimes that don't take a person's life? It's all just a game, right?
I would really like to see violent video game advocates answer this question on TV. I think it would really highlight the desensitization to violence we have undergone over the past few decades...
edit: hee-hee, my sig kinda proves that point!
