YOu make Trumps statement look mild...
Trump - "they are only sending us the criminals"

You - " Mexico, a country of cartels and bandits."
Mexico is controlled by cartels. Are all Mexicans bad? Of course not, but the fact remains the country is heavily influenced by the cartels and criminals. I couldn't care less if they end up in the US, though.

So it wasn't wrong for Trump to say the same then? He's not really racist oppose to what MSNBC, CNN the liberals and democrats painted him out to be....cool.

If we use the same currency, we wouldn't become richer.
We'd just have lesser US dollars since CAD is weaker.
Taxes in Canada are not very different from the US and if we are to keep healthcare, then it is not going to be lower.
I wouldn't want citizenship without the right to vote, but I don't want Americans to be able to vote in Canada either.
So I guess that just leaves the right to work in 3 countries.
We can just expand NAFTA and make that possible instead of a union.
So I do not see a point of a union.
There is also the question of who has control over printing the money.

Trump says Alberta and Saskatchewan might be first to join the US, and if that happens then the whole country breaks apart

The thing is provinces cannot unilaterally leave Canada. Canada's Constitution actually lays out the framework for provinces to separate as well as how to dissolve the confederation of provinces. Basically, there has to be a plebiscite to see if there's enough interest, and if there is, the 10 provinces as well as the House of Commons must agree to those provinces separating or the country dissolving. Provinces and H of C MPs cannot even agree on what to order for lunch.

The media, ever so eager to push the panic button, continuously glosses over these facts.

On paper they cant, but what is Trudeau gonna do if ALB/SASK do decide to separate??
Is he gonna send in the army to stop them?? :D

But how exactly would that work? You cannot just say "we're no longer part of Canada". All that would achieve is having the other eight provinces laughing at them.

Also, there is no way the majority of citizens in AB and SK want this, so, right there, they'd have a homegrown problem.

Agreed, I just looked it up and only 18% support in Alberta.
So unless that changes it wont happen anytime soon

good to see you are laser focused on ensuring economic collapse
you currently avoid the money printing issue like it the plague, since it is tied to cost cutting

the answer is both countries have printed enough money to last for a very very long time
so no need to print anymore

First, this is not like the EU at all. They did not lose their citizenship or anything like that. If it were more like the EU, there is a possibility I would support it. However, I think it would need to be bigger than just Canada, US and Mexico.
there is no such offer to Mexico
There is no way the US would go for a union with Mexico , not a snowballs chance in hell

If it were something like this, maybe:
  • Unified currency. Does not need to be the US dollar, can be a new one, like the Euro.
it would be the USD
  • Canada and Mexico keep their sovereignty and people retain their citizenship.

  • I'm not sure how the governance system would be set up, but it couldn't be the US deciding everything. Would it be similar to the US Senate, where every state gets two votes?
dreamer, silly little dreamer
Britain left because domestic issues were being determined by un-elected officials in Brussels

This is something that could work. However, in the current climate, I doubt Mexico or Canada would even entertain talks with Trump (the master negotiator ). I do think this could be something that happens in the future. Again, it would not be Canada becoming a state, but a deeper economic partnership is feasible.
in 2026 the USMCA is opened up and Trump will be involved
this could be devastating for Canada unless we seek a win/ win and play the energy / resource cards properly
if Mark Carney is PM we will get gutted

If Canada can strike a deal with the US where we have a North-American Union just like they have in the EU, would you be in favor of that??

Benefits would be US citizenship (without the right to vote in the US).
You become instantly 30% richer (US exchange rate).
Possibly lower taxes.

Here's how it might work:

- Canada, the US, and Mexico become one Union.
- All 3 countries share the same currency.
- All 3 countries would still keep their name and their same government system.
- People of all 3 countries can work in all 3 countries, but they can only vote in their own country.
- Canada would keep its healthcare system and gun control laws.
- We could get rid of customs, or we could keep them (some EU countries still have border control).
- All 3 countries would keep their legal systems (for example, no death penalty or overly harsh sentences).
As long as I get to keep our medicare , get rid of carbon tax, HST, get of liberal, or NDP, Bloc, PA. And finally lower taxes…bring it on.

I very much doubt that would happen
If a economic union deal were to negotiated an exchange date would be set and CAD would be converted @ the market determined CAD/USD rate on that date

if Trump is unable to shrink the size of govt and eliminate the deficits the USD could become worthless inside of 10-20 years

That said the loonie is on the same pathway should Carney become an elected PM
Trump is aiming for another 3.4 trillion in debt

This is just stupid. We wouldn't become 39% richer our stuff would be worth 30% less. We wpild lose our health care, our natural resources would be pillaged by 10 times richer conglomerates and we would lose our health care, have daily mass shootings, love in trailers and be subject to king MuskTrump. Think I would rather live in Haiti at this point
