There was only one Lone Ranger, based on the story by O. Henry, starring the great Clayton Moore, he of the silver bullets and two nickle-plated sixguns, riding Silver, the magnificent white steed and wonder horse. His trusted friend, Tonto, rode Scout, an Indian pony.
O'Henry and Bass Reeves both died in 1910, his stories have become dated. It was part of the new radio format whitewashing the Oklahoma Territory, you couldn't have a black man as an expert tracker of criminals. The Lone Ranger fell out of favour in the post Vietnam years and ultimately became Johnny Depp's second worst mistake.
Glen Campbell, best known for his hit songs and smooth voice was better known among his peers as one of the best session guitarists.

Bass Reeves escaped slavery by hiding out in The Oklahoma Territory, where he lived among the Cherokee. He learned his tracking skills from them. He's not seen in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but the famed outlaws could not evade him.
It's not O'Henry. He was known as O. Henry, short for Olivier Henry, his full pen name. Most of the folklore associated with the Lone Ranger, such as Silver, the white steed, Tonto, Kemo Sabe and Scout, was added in the 1930s when the Lone Ranger originated in Detroit on WXYZ radio. The William Tell Overture was also added at that time.
As a kid in the fifties, I did not like the Lone Ranger, the Cisco Kid or Roy Rogers. They did not shoot their opponents to death, which I preferred, but merely shot them in the hands to disarm them.
The Lone Ranger is the beginning of the worst mid-life crisis ever for Johnny Depp.

The USA was suffering from war fatigue after WW II and Korea, they wanted entertainment. The actor produced the film O. Henry's Full House, which featured Marylin Munroe and Anne Baxter before they became famous. Laughton also played Captain William Kid in Abbot and Costello meet Captain Kidd, a box-office draw.
Warner and Disney were competing even in the early 50's. Disney came out with Donald Duck's Trick or Treat while WB made Rabbit of Seville.
