Collins is down by 5% and said this yesterday.
Exactly.
"Given the proximity of the presidential election, however, I do not believe that the Senate
should vote on the nominee prior to the election," the Maine senator said in a Saturday statement.
"In fairness to the American people, who will either be re-electing the President or selecting a new one, the decision on a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court
should be made by the President who is elected on November 3rd," said Collins.
She has said exactly nothing. Once Mitch calls for the vote she says "I said they shouldn't do it but since it has happened it would be irresponsible for me not to vote to confirm such a qualified judge" or she tries to hedge longer and pulls the Tulsi-esque abstention or "present". She claims it is a moral choice because there should be no vote but what it does is make it so that Mitch needs one less vote since now it is 99 instead of a 100.
I think we can safely assume she's on board with this happening.
