What is "The Nod" all about?

I've always believed the nod in time past to be sometime originally started by the brothas and exchanged among them as a form of acknowledgement and endearment. I've also read that fist bump as oppose to a handshake was also coined by the brothas, even certain handshakes. Ive noticed it's become somewhat more common to see all people regardless of color or ethnicity exchange this type of greeting nowadays

You're walking along and you get "the nod". As men, we all know what "the nod" is about - usually the down nod. However, I get asked about "the nod" from the wife and thus, here is the (admittedly plagiarized) answer. Use it was you see fit.


"The Nod", it's a secret code that, roughly translated, means:

"I see you. I see that you are a human male. I, too, am a human male. We are both mortals. Our time on this earth is limited. We have obligations to which we must keep. There is the up , middle and down nods.
Ever notice when you talk to people anywhere their head shakes in agreement but the nod is full swing up and down in small distances. I hate doing that.

You walking the side walk and see a bro from school or gym which nod? middle up or middle down?
You see a cousin but don't care to talk to and have to get some where? middle up or middle down?

You see a Stripper or SP or MP you know to often on the sidewalk by herself ? middle up or middle down?
You see a Stripper or SP or MP you know to often on the sidewalk with her family? NO NOD.
You see your one night stand from last month or your NSA/FWB you dumped last month? Middle up or middle down? or Side WAYS.?

Middle down - come here?
Middle up - hi , look out?
Middle sideways - Checking out women? with eyes also moving sideways not to miss anything?
