Has the UK Conservatives lost touch with reality/

They want to replace Boris Johnson, that's fine if there is someone more competent. Instead the front runners are significantly worse, one is willfully ignorant on what invoking Article 16 actually means and the other is an adherent of Trickle Down Economics. Maybe they should consider Geoff Assel, it can't get any worse. Mr. Assel was a producer on Monty Python's Flying Circus and the voice of Pablo Casals.

I actually pity Boris Johnson, his party is stabbing him in the back.

Can't blame him for wanting to party, wish I could. Never mind the Queen being alone she's 94, had she been invited I doubt she could kick her heels and flap her skirt like she once could. What's spooking the Conservatives is the blow back their getting in the outlands over levelling up. Prior to Brexit, it would have been possible for the rich South-East and London to give something back to the outlying regions...it was never proposed. With Brexit biting deep London is feeling the pain, levelling up would eventually mean spreading the pain - which is what Rishi Sunak is currently doing.

Levelling up goes against Thatcher principles, it was attempted by PM Harold Wilson in the 60's. John Lennon even wrote a song about it.

Vladimir Putin is driving the EU closer together. According to the latest economic figures, the former PIGS (Portugal, Italy,Greece,Spain) are driving the EU's economy. With London no longer holding financial hegemony, it's starting to look like economic liberation.

Brexiteers - We want our freedom!
EU - But you don't have a parachute
Brexiteers - WE WANT OUR FREEDOMS AND WE WANT THEM NOW.
EU - Ok, go then.
Brexiteers - (just before they hit the ground) fuckin EU cunts, its their fault.

India/UK Free Trade talks are not going well.

The British Raj actually WAS the best thing that could happen to India.

It turned a religiously bigoted, extremely violent, corrupt, caste-ridden, backward country where .001% of the population owned 99.9999% of the wealth into a place that was decently and properly run for 100 years. And now the Indians are resentful cunts about that fact.

Don't agree Mandrill, India generated 20% of the world's economy when The East India Company conquered Bengal. By the time the British left in 1947, that figure was down to 6%.

Rule Britannia is still strong with the nightmare Tories. The UK is becoming a Failed State, better to look for scapegoats than dealing with real problems. Home Secretary Suella Braverman, herself of Indian descent, has been using Joseph Goebbels rhetoric to dehumanize migrants, they are a cancer on all that is good and British. The nightmare Tories are actually going ahead him plans to deport them to Rwanda.

Agree with most of that.

But the EIC conquered Bengal in 1750 in the pre industrial era and by 1950, most of the wealth and income was being generated by industrialized countries in the West. The British did not industrialize India, but they didn't have a duty to do so either.

I'm working with a bunch of brits who were totally freaking out at the places they were staying at. They couldn't find out how to turn the heat off when you leave and were super worried.
That's the norm there now, turn off the heat when you leave, never leave it on for more then 4 hours at a time.

That's common to all Europe right now in the post Ukraine War era.

True, but they were saying that was the norm before the war started as well.

Just read this story about Reagan telling Iran not to release hostages so Carter wouldn't get elected, promising them a better deal.
