Donald Trump will likely abandon all tariff negotiations before they even begin, choosing instead to impose tariffs unilaterally in a reckless display of power. This sends a clear message to global partners: do not do business in America—we are not reliable, and we do not want you here. His actions have severely damaged the reputation and credibility of the United States as a global leader, replacing cooperation and diplomacy with hostility and unpredictability. The American brand, once associated with opportunity and partnership, now risks being seen as erratic, self-destructive, and inhospitable. The truth is that no one will even negotiate with him. Hopefully, this move will damage his reputation and credibility so much that Congress and even Republicans will bend him over, put a foot on his ass and give it a shove rolling him out with a slam of the back door as the mid terms arrive

The problem with this plan is that the US consumer market is larger than the next two combined (EU and China). Many countries are economically dependent on running a trade surplus with the US. Canada’s poster child for this.

The US market was so strong that it was able to offset a trade deficit with other countries. It's like when a company has a loss leader product.
The deficit was below 3% of their total market. But politically, it looked bad. It did not align well with the US first propaganda of Trump.

The US will pay a very harsh price for this tariff stupidity.

Tacomans tariffs are hurting the American farmers. In this video one of the farmers says that this may be last generation of family farmers. Well...you Corn Huskers voted for the very many who has caused irreversible damage to the US agriculture industry AND to the reputation of the United States. It was the middle-American's (previously) latent racism that these old white farmers endorsed by voting for him. But selfish fucks taht they are, they only NOW complain about Trump. Or even blame Biden for being old so taht's why they were forced to vote for Trump! Clowns.

U.S. Wheat Shipments Rejected – Buyers Flood Canadian Markets Instead -

A quiet storm is hitting America’s farming heartland. What began as a few canceled contracts has turned into a full-scale wheat shipment collapse.

Longtime buyers are walking away—not because of price, but because of trust.

This video unpacks how the global food crisis is reshaping trade relationships, pushing countries like the Philippines, France, South Korea, Mexico, and Italy to abandon U.S. suppliers. The result? A massive export market loss for American wheat producers.

As uncertainty grows, Canada is rising. With faster inspections and more predictable logistics, it's leading a global wheat shift that has left American grain sitting in silos.

Behind the scenes, farmers are facing a mounting farming economic crisis, compounded by policy instability, missed deliveries, and crop surpluses. From US export decline and agricultural export crash to a broader supply chain crisis, this isn’t just a regional problem—it’s a signal of a deeper global agriculture shift already underway.

What we’re witnessing is more than a trade disruption. It’s a trade trust collapse that could echo across food markets and supply chains worldwide.

Yup. And when those consumers can't get their fix due to high costs, who they gonna blame.

You probably haven't noticed in your news bubble but there is a decided shift in USA citizen thinking. They now see the American Dream as unachievable in the present leadership and corporate run structure.

People are reaching the point of nothing to lose. You really don't want that in your unwashed masses. It leads to social unrest.

Of course I predicted this coming. It has to get worse before it gets better.

If Trump imposes tariffs unilaterally on countries around the world, there will be swift retaliation. Nations will increasingly choose to trade among themselves, bypassing the United States altogether. Canada is not entirely dependent on the U.S. and has already begun reducing its exposure by pursuing alternative markets for its resources, goods, and services.
We must not forget how Americans themselves will respond to such tariffs. The entire population will end up paying more, not just for imported goods, but for domestically produced items that rely on foreign parts. American farmers and industries that depend on exports will not remain silent when their goods are hit with retaliatory tariffs. The real question is how the public will react when the total cost of this economic fiasco is finally tallied.
Nothing lasts forever, never say forever. Less than six months into his term, much of the world, along with a growing number of Americans, are already weary of Trump’s erratic behavior. His credibility is shot, and support within his own Republican Party is beginning to erode. The upcoming midterm elections will be a key indicator of whether the U.S. must endure the full length of his presidency. Until then, Trump remains capable of causing significant damage. Should Congress step in to sanction him or curtail his authority, it would be a deeply humiliating blow. And if his behavior grows more unstable, it may trigger a scramble to strip him of access to the nuclear codes. The next president is waiting in the wings, Trump the broken down old fart with the addled mind and erratic behavior is making Gavin Newsom look like a very attractive alternative. Some may argue that he is not the best choice, but compared to Trump he is a vastly better choice. All the next president has to do to look good is to speak intelligently, be diplomatic, restore foreign relations with many countries Trump has alienated and undo all of Trump's "pie in the sky policies". Merely undoing Trump's tariffs and re-establishing trade will bring credibility back to America.

The stupidity of isolationism is that the US is the largest consumer in the world but cannot supply its own economy therefore trade is crucial.

Carney caved.
Did Carney cave or is he a master negotiator that has used Trumps strengths and tactics against him. Suspending the Digital Services Tax does not mean it can not be re-implemented in the future. Carney is blazing a path for other countries to follow. Trump can not let the DST stand and let the American public see how much it will hurt the tech companies. If the countries from around the world all impose a DST the cost to the American tax payer is huge. This is a tax collected by each country, not a tariff paid for by the American consumer.

The stupidity of isolationism is that the US is the largest consumer in the world but cannot supply its own economy therefore trade is crucial.
The end is near for Trump, how much more can the American public take. There will be push back from Democrats and even republicans. Trump must show progress from his tariff plan by the end of the year or lose all credibility and trust. Trump is glad to re-open negotiations with Canada, rather than send letters and unilaterally impose tariffs. If he had resorted to this move, it would not take long before the American public felt the financial pain/drain

Just as Trump imagined he could end the war between Russia and Ukraine with a single phone call to Putin and Zelenskyy the day after being re-elected, his delusions of grandeur and exaggerated sense of influence have led him to believe that the entire world relies solely on America. He assumed that nations would rush to offer the U.S. more favorable trade deals simply because, in his words, “I hold all the cards.” In reality, countries around the world have refused to even have discussions on trade re-negotiations with the United States. His recent declaration that he would unilaterally impose tariffs by sending letters to all nations is a desperate attempt to regain leverage. Trump eagerly accepted Carney’s offer to re-open talks, but only because Carney proposed removing the Digital Services Tax, a move that appeared to be a quid pro quo but was in fact, Carney giving up very little in exchange for something Trump desperately wanted. Trump could not afford to have a trade stand-off with all the countries of the world. Trump's real fear is a global shift away from U.S.-centered trade, particularly as countries like China strengthen their own ties. His ultimate goal isn’t just economic dominance, it’s to create the illusion of success so massive that it justifies a push for a third term to preserve his presidential immunity, shielding him from the mounting civil and criminal charges that await him post-presidency when he loses his presidential immunity. Trump's only other avenue to avoid his legal troubles is to pull Chin Gigante.

I wouldn't say "Carney caved", this Digital tax wasn't his idea...when I look at it, the Digital tax would have been neither good or bad for the citizens of Canada, it was a total cash grab by the Feds.

Dropping it is ba good idea if it helps with trade talks.
The digital tax was smart, a way to tax the google/social media oligarchy.
That sort of tax has been going in globally as one of the few ways to tax the super billionaires.

Carney caved and should not have cut it.
