My hunch is simply that he is not as rich and makes as much as he brags he is/does.

And people believing he is VERY rich is core to his very sense of self.

I think this is probably going to be spot on. I also think he wants to protect the 'loopholes' and tax breaks he takes advantage of.
Not because they're wrong, but because too many people start doing the same, and they will be plugged up/ fixed.
The only secret is his true financial status.

There are people with way more money than him paying way smarter people than his creating new tax law precedents every day. (Unless you count giving tax deductible “charitable” donations to your own fake charity that you used to pay off lawsuits and contribute two causes to benefit your own political ambitions something you want to keep sectet!)

I think there are three questions that Trump doesn't want answered publicly.
1) what his real net worth is
2) who is lending him money now that no US bank will touch him, besides Deutsche Bank.
3) did he commit tax fraud, as he committed fraud with Trump U and the Trump Foundation. Already we know he didn't report the Stormy Daniels payments.

1) what his real net worth is.

^THIS^ is all that matters to Trump.

I think that if his cult members found out he wasn't as rich, self-made and profitable as he crows that he is, that might be the thing that breaks their hearts and realize they fell in love with a con man.

2) who is lending him money now that no US bank will touch him, besides Deutsche Bank.

Do tax returns show the name of lenders? Even if they do, Trump truly thinks he is effectively above the law and beyond reproach (see Fifth Ave shooting)

3) did he commit tax fraud, as he committed fraud with Trump U and the Trump Foundation. Already we know he didn't report the Stormy Daniels payments.

If he did I think the IRS would already have charged him. I think that fraud is the reason NY state is going after his tax returns.

Accounting geniuses, how are you going to determine net worth from tax returns?

This is about income generated and taxes or the lack of it that may have been paid or if he clawed back more than what he paid thanks for some of his bankruptcies etc.

Cult followers love to defend his corrupt practices!!

I would guess it matters a lot to him, but that there other things he wants to hide even more.

Fair enough.

They have to get his taxes to know if he's committed tax fraud.
Cohen already said he cooks the books for insurance, you think that doesn't extend to taxes?

He would have been charged or under investigation long before he ran for POTUS had he not filed and paid his taxes. The burden of proof is on you. The IRS does not fuck around, especially with people who pay millions in taxes.

We know for instance he paid $30m+ in 2005 based on a Rachel Maddow reenactment of Geraldo Rivera’s opening of a vault
In fact, as I said above, before he ran for office Trump was under investigation and audit.

That reveal was 14 years ago. And we still don't know about the years from then until now. Not even that the audits were settled, which is the only way a disputed tax bill can be considered 'paid', as I said above. And in spite of his promise to reveal the returns when they were. That being the case, if he complies with the Court and turns over his returns, then and only then, will we the people know whether and what he has filed and paid. But he'd rather go tho the Supreme Court than do that

Until then, the Court may have to view him as innocent and honest, but the IRS who audits him doesn't have to, nor do we. People like us just pay up, and thus have no issue sharing our tax status with appropriate institutions.

Why would a President be any different?

The IRS makes determinations on taxes, if it’s being litigated the relevant court already has the tax returns.

You either have something or you don’t, so far you don’t.
