I recently made a complaint to Fred Zed about a case of racism/bigotry that took place on the board:

However I came to realize that this wasn't Fred. And that Fred passed away. Here is the response I received basically threatening to delete my account although I never violated any TERB policies. Accused me as acting like a child....

I have been a board member since 2002 and have contributed many reviews (I am user profile Gollumtroll, Mackensonv2, and Mackenson). And I am pretty sure my conversations long time ago were with Fred. But I think it is such a disrespect to Fred and TERB to have people using his account to troll and threaten community members that have not broken any of TERB Policies. This all happened because I reported a community who actually broke the TERB policies.

You have not posted the " culturally insensitive " comment for us to evaluate it AND does that mean it is absolutely racist???

Here is there thread. Lots of comments have been removed but you can get the idea.

I don't know why the OP gets to threaten violence on the other person and that is ok but whatever. People can judge for themselves.

To the OP. Remember. You don't have a "right" to be here. Don't like the rules or the way it is handled, the log-out button is available to you.

Sounds like you don't like how the board is being run. It also sounds like the board admin. won't change to satisfy you. Why don't you just leave and never come back?

BTW. Posting PMs publicly is also against the rules. So kind of silly asking for rules to be respected when you are not respecting them yourself.

Maybe the OP is making a point - if some rules are not being enforced breaking others should make no difference.

I personally find the enforcement is inconsistent. I was banned for a week for calling someone a douchebag (nothing profane, racist, etc) - God help us if douchebag is the worst of the worst of insults. Seen the term used many times over but I was banned for insulting another member. I'm no stranger to vitriol myself - occasional insults and in one case a blatantly false accusation from a paid advertiser. Nothing has been done about that.

I think the OP has a fair grievance - racism was reported but instead of the racist being dealt with the person reporting a violation gets a curt response.

I looked at that topic: there was no racism/hateful comments there. Just a little joke and huge overreaction. On the same cultural stereotype level as Italians & Pasta, English & drinking in pubs; Russians & vodka, etc.

This is our reply to the OP earlier today, it was actually sent to him before this thread has been brought to our attention. He got all tangled in a knot because we didnt JUMP at his wish to remove what many on here thought was a harmless joke by another member. The same moderating team that is on this board now, has been here for many many years. We are in no way perfect but try our very best to make this the best adult forum in the country

"Moderating a forum such as this is not easy. You are dealing with a plethora of different races, religions, ages, economic variances, sexes, beliefs, attitudes, political ideologies........should i continue ? It is not easy, strike that, it is not possible to please everyone on every thread created in the forum. We do are best to be objective, fair and consistent, without picking sides or showing favoritism. Posts or threads flagged by more than one person are carefully reviewed and scrutinized by the moderating team. Is it done in real time ? or instantly ? No. but we eventually get to it.Example being the post in question that upset you. It was eventually taken down. AFTER WE DEALT WITH A DOZEN GIRLS BEING STALKED. HARASSED, AND THEIR LIVES PUT AT RISK. But eventually we do get to all flagged posts. No need to get upset because we were not there at your beckon wish because someone made what he thought was a joke. Regardless, his comments were removed. Racism will never be tolerated here.

Finding a balance between not offending some, at the expense of over moderating or excessive censorship, and keeping the forum interesting is beyond challenging to say the least. I hope this clears up a few things for you. And once again, thank you for your contribution to our community "

Jokes are always an issue in some cases because they offend - kind of the point. Stereotypes, even about one's own background, might be funny to some but completely offensive to others. If someone felt that a particular joke was offensive, sadly, it should be removed or, at the very least, get a reasonable response. I don't think the OP would have made this thread if the response was "The thread was reviewed, including the cited passages. In our judgement the comments are not overly offensive so they will not be removed. This is an open forum and some subjects and comments may be a little touchy."

douchebag is a very bad word. Who did you call douchebag?
Doesn't matter. Fact is I have never instigated any negative exchange but I don't see others being banned left, right and centre. Perhaps I'll make a point to just report people who start with the insults. I have no problem with discussion/debate but some people just throw crap out there to make themselves feel better.

And just to add one more point - guidelines, item 1...

1. Moderators' decisions are FINAL. If you think a moderator is acting inappropriately, or is treating you unfairly, contact Fred Zed. If you wish to question the moderator's decision, do so via pm or email, not in the public forums.
Thanks for following the rules.

I'm with the mods. Grow a pair.

This forum isn't for tattling on people. Leave that to the children.

you could have told the mods you meant 'deucebag' and not 'douchebag', you could have been pardoned

From what I can tell, what wigglee posted wouldn't be worth the mods' time. Seems like a self-proclaimed thick-skinned man with thin skin.
All that I can see from the thread as it currently exists is that wigglee made a joke about throat singing and BJs. That's incredibly mild and, judging by the rest of this posts in the thread, not based on hatred, fear, and intolerance of, nor superiority towards, the Inuit people. Have we truly forgotten what racism is?

What he did was akin to someone making a joke about using a dreidal or baguette (etc etc) in a sexual manner. If I were the mods, I wouldn't waste my time even responding to the complaint.
