I saw STP open for the Chili Peppers many years ago. Scott was awesome as was his band. I suspect his addiction problems lead to his death. A friend saw him in Toronto this summer. She said he was so wasted he could barely perform. Sad ending to a great talent. RIP

The sad wage of a lifestyle... A legend though in my books. It's hard not to hear his music and be reminded of the good times past.
RIP Scott

Wow. 48 years old, what a shame.

His last performance was here in Toronto @ Adelaide Hall on Tuesday night.

I didn't know his music that well but a couple friends were big fans. RIP.

... not a shock , but yeah ... sad indeed.

Didn't he say he's stayed away from the hard stuff for more than 10 years recently ? Hope he didn't OD.

RIP Weiland.

I was a fan, grudgingly. He was just too talented to ignore. I hated Velvet Revolver, but some of his work with STP was really great.
RIP Scott.

So what ate Weiland up, his lyrics weren't very good. Great singer but it was his inflection not the words that made STP so much money in the mid 90's. Bono's lyrics weren't very good when U2 started out, but he worked very hard to get better at it. Weiland didn't have the discipline and turned to drugs.

RIP great singer.

RIP Sir!! He had a lot of demons. I think during an Howard Stern interview, he alluded to being molested as a young boy...very sad indeed!:frown:

Highly derivative, but he was a great singer and helped define the whole 90s alt/post-grunge scene.

Really a tragic tale. His personal demons finally caught up to him. Hopefully he's in a better place now. RIP.
Purple is one of the best rock albums of the 90's. Pretty well every track is stellar.

I’m shocked.

no, really I am shocked. Shocked he lived this long! I swear I thought he died in the early 2000’s

"I'd go through a period of using for a while, but then I'd go get clean and stop and I'd go through that whole cycle of rehabbing that became very expensive – more so than the drugs ever were.” In an interview with Loudwire that ran on June 4, 2014, Weiland reiterated that he had been clean for 13 years."
