Before you all get too excited, it would be good to see the full stats. Murders have been up across the US all year. (I've been seeing articles since end of March ). Rape, burglary, and grand larceny down - shootings and homicide up.

It is very possible it has spiked even more in NYC after the unit was disbanded, but the Post article isn't giving the numbers. (And we aren't seeing the numbers in other cities.)

Really? Maybe rethink that the next time someone shoots up an Eaton Centre food court and police dispatched to the scene are running towards the danger not away from it.

It's so easy to be a critic when you're not the one avoiding getting shot when you're at work.

I'm staying a historical fact. Modern policing comes out of defending *property*, not people. We have made progress reforming that over the last 200 years or so, but that's the historical truth.

And it is still part of the system today. Most of what the police are funded for isn't for "protecting the innocent". If it was, we would be having a very different conversation.
