Yegor Gaidar was the leader Russia needed, instead they got Vladimir Putin. Gaidar was a technocrat who understood Russia's problem, after a term limit Boris Nemtsov would have succeeded him. Under them Russia had a chance at thriving economically, scientifically and culturally. Unfortunately the Ruble crashed in 1998, Russia wasn't part of the developing EU and President Clinton was too busy getting bochini. Both Gaidar and Nemtsov are now dead.
