First, this is an opinion piece. It may be correct, or just torqued to hurt Trudeau. That being said, I don't agree with the author. There are a number of factors that will make or break the decision for prolonged lockdowns. Part of it is how quickly we can get vaccines into the arms of everyone, kids included. There is definitely some issues with procuring the drug quickly enough, but we are making progress. When Ford eases lockdown restrictions, people need to stop being selfish. That means avoiding parties and hanging with people unless they're masked up and distanced. It sucks. We can all agree on that. But once we get a large enough number of people vaccinated, things will improve.

I know there is a desire to lay blame on our politicians, and lord knows they do deserve it. I'm no Doug Ford fan, and lord knows he's done some really stupid stuff over the last year. But I also recognize the incredibly difficult situation he is in. He has people yelling that they're going to lose their businesses unless they re-open. But public health says now. He makes the wrong choice, and we're back in lockdown. I'm not sure how much these and lack of quarantine are behind the surge in cases, but it does feel so easy for Ford to shift blame. Even though the experts were warning about a third wave before a lot of these variants were talked about.

Trudeau is far from perfect. But with the provinces doing the vaccine rollouts and in charge of lockdowns, these types of articles just feel like they are trying to pin the blame solely on one person, which isn't fair or accurate.

The upcoming Canadian cold weather seasons - Autumn & Winter - could keep much of Canada in lockdowns.

Indoors poorly ventilated places may be around 20 times higher risk for infections than being outdoors.

This week i've seen many downtown Vancouverites dining outdoors without masks & just in general more people outdoors under the sun (or clouds, as it usually is here, lol).

It's why we need to get community spread down low enough and vaccine levels high enough to prevent that happening.
