He had such a smooth and graceful running style.

It’s nice to imagine he and Brian Piccolo tossing the ball around together again. Now I’m going to play the final scene of a Brian’s Song in my head and get a little weepy.

RIP, he was by far the best ball carrier I've ever seen, the way he could stop on a dime and change directions, best at running in the mud, he was a "mudder"

I never watched Gale Sayers play, but I did watch Brian's Song with James Caan and Billy Dee Williams as Sayers.

Tv movies of that era were usually cheap and cheesy. Not Brian's Song, it could have easily made money in theaters. I'll have to see if I can add it to my menuboard.

Anyone know who's carrying it?

Sayers was the best open field runner I have ever seen.

By all accounts he was a great msn off the field as well.

It's too bad that he was mired on some less than stellar Bears teams and played in an era where knee injuries were proven to be career killers.

Of course he will be immortalized in the movie ''Brian's Song''..........Which is really fitting if you think about it.

I’m gettin old. I ain’t this old.

Too young to have seen Sayers play but the name I heard most today was Koufax as a comparison. Unbelievably great players but a very short window for both. I thought of Bo Jackson. Not because of playing style but both were flashes of greatness

I don't think that it would be inappropriate to include Bobby Orr in this group. And he may have been the greatest of them all in terms of their respective sports.
