Question about Steam or stream cards

May I ask what is going on. I’m finding a lot ladies only take steam cards, stream cards or gift cards.
Is it a scam or what?

can some one please explain this new trend?

I bet they also want you to send the card numbers in advance.

P.S. They are not "ladies". They are guys in an internet cafe in Lagos Nigeria.
