The kind of guy he is, a pitiful deluded snowflake who 'ordered' organic food in jail, he's looking to cover his baby oiled ass.
The truth bit him hard and he wants the system to go soft on him or let him go altogether. I'm sure he wants as much distance from his 'buddies'
as possible. This is the sort of fickle these guys are because they're delusional in the first place. Best thing is for all these guys who participated on January 6th to go through the same thing.

Here is what's happening. Furry Horny Dude has no real criminal defence to what he's charged with. He was caught doing the crime in currently the most watched videos in the entire fucking world. So that translates into his defence attorney having to grovel on his belly to the DA and beg for any deal the DA will toss in his client's face. No lawyer (or client) relishes that position.
What the attorney needs is a runnable defence that he can take in front of a jury and work for a few weeks' trial time that will wreck the judicial schedule for that sittings. THAT will get concessions from the DA. BIG concessions.
So the sleazebag defence attorneys for several of these assholes - not just Furry Dude - come up with a "just following orders / colour of right" defence. It goes "The president is the commander in chief. So when he tells good American citizens to storm the Capitol and take it back from the disloyal traitors, loyal Americans have to do just that." That defence is not seriously going to work, but it's novel enough that it could go to trial without a judge blocking it by pointing out that it was already tried back in 1879 and old Judge Bimpey trashed it back then and established a binding ruling that no one could ever use it again.
So the DA bites the bullet and says "Okay, your client gets only 50% the jail time I said I was going to give him 3 weeks ago." And that looks pretty good to the defence.
The rest of the garbage is just performance, swagger and window dressing.
