Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, husband of Queen Elizabeth II, father of Prince Charles and patriarch of a turbulent royal family that he sought to ensure would not be Britain’s last, died on Friday at Windsor Castle in England. He was 99.

His death was announced by Buckingham Palace, which said he passed away peacefully.

Sad to hear, but he certainly led a long life.

During a Royal visit to Canada many years ago he came to my school. I remember the teachers explaining all the protocols to us beforehand about how to behave in his presence and being scared I would mess up, lol.

To be perfectly honest, I'd not be the least bit surprised if this is exactly what happens in the end.

I'm not convinced it will happen, I just wouldn't be surprised. I can't really picture Charles' portrait on our banknotes or postage stamps.

Very true, which is why I find it funny when "republicans" in the UK or any of the Commonwealth countries say the royals are a "tax burden". Also, taxpayers don't fund the Royals (except when security is needed). They get their money from the Durchies of Cornwall and Lancaster.
