If supply and demand was at play here nurses would be paid at least 2x as much as cops and firemen where I believe willing supply [ applicants ] always far exceeds demand. Furthermore nurse training is far more extensive and it is very hard to be accepted into training. PAY THEM THE SAME, THEY DESERVE IT !!!

If $100 (representing our tax dollars) were put on the table and everyone was told to fight for it, what would happen?

As usual public sector workers(nurses, teachers, cops, fireman etc.) use fear tactics to sway public opinion which in turn sways governments.
There are many nurses graduating university every year.

We just learned that there are 1200 foreign-trained nurses ready to go now.

Your right there are many nurses graduating every year in Ontario and many go south for better pay and benefits , same with doctors. the working conditions, low pay, and total lack of respect nurses have to deal with drives the best of them away.

Vast majority of nurses do not make this amount
My ex makes this amount as an agency nurse. But most of the time she works at a place that takes care of HIV/AIDS patients. This is much less stress than the hospital but also lower pay.

Not all nurses in ontario are RN's, there is a lot RPN's as it involves only a 2 year diploma, plus it's cheaper for healthcare providers to pay for an RPN, especially for long term care and community care.

And how many of the good ol' boys will trust a nurse with a heavy accent?

And their point is they've been restricted to 1% while cops were exempted from that law. Considering the hours and conditions that many nurses have been working in for the past two years, they seem to deserve it more.

And do people really want their medical care managed by the cheapest people they can find?

TPS budget is over 1billion
They are massively out of control on the spending side.
Having said that, all public sector workers earn more than the private sector already plus they enjoy gold plated pensions and benefits no one else can dream of. Public sector pension exceed the combined pensions of the private sector despite being less than 1/4 the workforce

Public sector used to be less pay than Private sector, but you had the stability and pension, etc. Now the Public sector has both...

We're out of money and no-one wants to accept it. Just keep paying with money you don't have.

I always encourage younger people to find jobs in the public sector.

What do YOU think a RN should be paid then.Considering the knowledge they need to have training they go through. Its a 4 year degree program now,a LOT different than when my wife went through 46 years ago.

RNs deserve more, RPNs are essentially nurse assistants who like to think of themselves as equal but are not (said with all due respect to RPNs).
