Duclair signed on, and if no one told him he should fire his agent.

However, I’m surprised the NHLPA haven’t addressed this in the CBA before now. Tell Lou he’s a dinosaur at the bargaining table and let the other teams defend him and pay something in return. Maybe this has already happened and it was a bargaining chip for something else. But the human rights / religious freedom issue should be handled by the league and not left to one team.

Not at all different than the NY Yankees' no long hair and no beard policy
That's the only thing I respect about the Yankees, their clean cut policy.
You are an athlete, you are not some hippie in a rock and roll band.
And if you don't like it, find another team

Not sure if this should be here or in the sports forum.
An NHL player was forced to cut his hair due to team rules.
Personally I think this rule is stupid.
What do you think?

Gord Miller while trying not to a racist, sounds very racist and unaware of culture.

He has officially joined " The Plug Hall of Fame" with sid texeira. Both sitting at the top.

From the link in post #1:

" Nearly two months after signing a four-year contract with the New York Islanders, forward Anthony Duclair decided to stop delaying the inevitable and cut off his hair. He knew this day would come, and after taking the summer to enjoy his final days with his long locks, Duclair did what he had to do."

I don't see that Duclair complained. He just posted a photo of his shorn locks. Other people are taking offense on his behalf, as if hair length/ style is a human rights issue.

Clearly the clean cut policy is enforced only in season. Duclair got a haircut because training camp is about to start.

Social media addicts who know dick about hockey chip in with 'It's not fair...he should be able to keep his hair, it's racist..." when they don't understand that it doesn't have to be fair. There is no vote, no consensus opinion, no polls nor petitions. No one's opinion of this policy matters except Lou Lamoriello's. Whether or not anyone other than Lamoriello agrees with the policy is irrelevant. Lamoriello is subordinate to Scot Malkin, 'governor' of the ownership group. Malkin could instruct Lamoriello to change the policy, but he won't. Spokesmen who speak and act on behalf of a Sports team don't pay much attention to Yahoo!News stories. Yahoo!News is the Internet's 'go to' site for news about Meghan Markle.

Funny story about Don Mattingly when he was with the Yankees

Of all the men who defied Steinbrenner’s grooming rule, Don Mattingly takes top billing to this day. By spring training ‘91, Mattingly was into year one of a freshly-signed, five-year contract worth just over $19 mil — one on which he and Steinbrenner had locked horns beforehand — making him the highest-paid ball player at the time.

Yankees management even made the first baseman captain that year.

But once June rolled along, the Yankees found themselves below .500 and as the reality of a rebuild sank in, Mattingly — who wanted to contend — asked for a trade. He didn’t get it (though in fairness, why sign a five-year deal knowing what’s coming then complain when the going gets tough?).

What he received instead was a request to chop his signature mullet. Mattingly was one of four guys on the team to get asked to groom to The Boss’ tastes: Pascual Perez, Matt Nokes and Steve Farr were also sent the memo. None too pleased about the demand from on high, Mattingly refused to get a haircut and was subsequently benched and fined $250 (plus $100 for every day he didn’t get a cut). Embittered at getting strong-armed, Mattingly finally folded

Nope.

The Commissioner of Baseball would decide. Courts have no jurisdiction in professional sports, except when there is a criminal code violation. Playing for a professional sports team is not a right. Prospective players can be excluded for any of a number of reasons, the most common of which is lack of talent. Associating with gamblers and domestic battery allegations are the #2 and #3 reasons, followed by social media posts critical of the 'Alphabet Community '.
Interesting. I would like to see what happens in court

Bill "Spaceman" Lee was fined $250 by the Expos for saying that he enjoyed marijuana sprinkled on his breakfast pancakes, so he sent the team a cheque for $251, just to fuck up their accounting.

In 1980 Spring Training, Ron LeFlore, before his only season with the Expos, was fined $250 for being late for a team meeting. LeFlore wrote two cheques for $250 each and said "I'll be late tomorrow, too".

Surprising so many brothers in football or any sport actually, have dreads, or braids or whatever they are called, down to their shoulders. Looks uncomfortable and kind of risky.
