Letourneau died fairly suddenly in her home late Monday, her former attorney David Gehrke told CNN. Most of her family was with her, including Vili Fualaau, her former student and ex-husband who was giving her 24-hour care the last month of her life.

Despite the age difference, the two semed to be genuinely in love. In many cultures, and in the past, this would have been legal.

In Japan, first cousins can legally marry. In the west, it is illegal. Polygamy is also illegal, but in many cultures it is.

The age thing is also very arbitrary. Let;s say you have sex with a 15 year old one minute before her birthday. You are a pedophile and rapist and thrown in jail. However, if you have sex with her one minute later, she has reached the age of consent and it is perfectly legal.

This is clearly not an objective black and white issues, and where the line is drawn is depenendent and different in many cultures.

We can judge her, but in the end both the sps we see and all of us seeing them are no better than her in the laws eyes. We are all breaking some law that prevents us from satisfying our lust, even though all parties are consenting.

Letourneau passed away from Stage 4 cancer at the age of 58 sometime on Tuesday, her ex-attorney confirmed to local news outlets.

"It was expected but sad anyway," lawyer David Gehrke told KOMO. "She was a good person.“

Gehrke did not immediately return The Sun's request for comment.

She was reportedly given 24-hour cancer care by Fualaau before she passed away.

According to reports, Gehrke said Letourneau died surrounded by family after her secret nine-month battle with stage four colon cancer.

"Evidence[d] by him coming back up here and being with her and by her side almost non stop for the last couple of months, they still obviously loved each other, and she would’ve done the same for him if he was the one who had cancer," Gehrke told Q13 News.

Sources told People Letourneau experienced severe weight loss and exhaustion in the final months of her life.
