Mark Halperin told Newsmax on Thursday that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg “bent the knee” to President-elect Donald Trump during their Wednesday meeting at Mar-a-Lago.
The claim was made weeks after Trump won the 2024 election and months after the former and future president threatened to throw Zuckerberg in prison.
As The New York Times reported, Zuckerberg traveled to Florida to meet with Trump and to “establish a positive rapport” with him.
The two reportedly enjoyed a pre-Thanksgiving dinner.
On Newsmax TV’s National Report Thursday afternoon, Halperin told the network that sources close to the meeting relayed to him that Zuckerberg declared his fealty to Trump. Halperin said:
According to my sources, although there were chairs at the dinner table, Mark Zuckerberg bent the knee, because any CEO now knows that Donald Trump is the new sheriff in town and they want to be on as good of terms as possible. These two have had an on-again, off-again relationship. And I think it’s pretty clear that flying to Mar-a-Lago, one of the richest people in the world, one of the most influential on social media, to come to Mar a Lago to try to mend fences and talk about a common agenda. The Trump people are being very gracious about it. But my suspicion is Donald Trump is smiling a little bit by the virtue of what’s happening all around him, which is world CEOs want to be part of his administration now.
In August, Trump took to his Truth Social account and threatened to imprison Zuckerberg for “life” after accusing the tech CEO of weaponizing Facebook against him.
“We are watching him closely, and if he does anything illegal this time he will spend the rest of his life in prison — as will others who cheat in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Trump wrote.
