I see that there is now a banner ad for Maggie's which takes you to: http://www.maggiestoronto.org/index.html
I went to have a look and there appears to be nothing on the site more recent than 1994. Even the annual report that is available is for 1993/94.

I am wondering if this is the current site or if the banner link mistakenly takes the user to a previous iteration of the site?

In the laboratory.
At the bottom of the first page, it states, "Last modified November 11, 2003." Presumably then, whatever the deficiencies and lag times, that's the current site.

For whatever reason [lack of funding or poor management/organization], Maggie's has been quite slow with updating their web page. I would have thought that it should be a priority and that they could find donors to the cause.

They have and they will be updating shortly as they are in the midst of that right now.

As a charitable organization, they could use all the support they can get. Any volunteers? It doesn't have to be cash donations you know...

Considering the size of the industry here in Toronto, it's easy to assume that support would automatically be there for them but as any charitable organization knows, it's a bloody struggle.

They aren't an organization looking to capitalize on any financial windfall for any personal gain. Criticizing them for the lack of content or for not updating as frequently as one would like seems a little off to me.

Perhaps if we all put our money where our mouths are, the updates, as well as other support mechanisms, would probably be flying into place with godspeed.

Awesome dude!

Nighthawk? You and Fred are golden. Let me say that they're tickled pink over what this will save them over the course of a year! This looks like the start of something really positive!!!!

And like I said, they could use all the help they can get! Whether it's a cash donation, donation of services, items that can be sold or auctioned off in a fund raiser, whatever. The options are rather wide and all it takes is a little creative thought.

I'm sure there are many guys out there who work in large corporate offices. Computers would be an awesome donation as we have come to learn. It is a dearly needed item of which they are in short supply. If anyone is updating office systems, rather than throw that old Pentium 2/3 in the trash, give it to Maggie's!

Ditto for office furniture. The grapevine tells me that they'd love to get their hands on a washer and dryer for the center as it would be a dearly appreciated asset for those who do not have access to such (street girls).

Collectively, it wouldn't take much effort at all. We're a pretty big community here. Terb parties would make an ideal fund raiser for Maggie's even if all that was asked was a loony per person.

From what I understand, they will have information regarding annonymous cash donations on their site. Paypal is being looked into at the moment if I am not mistaken.

They are a registered charitable organization and as such are able to provide tax receipts for those interested in making a corporate donation.

Any other ideas, thoughts, or contributions?

Thanks to the people at Ra-Media, our website is up and running. No, it has not been updated for sometime, but we are currently working on that.

We do realize that the website is important to have, to maintain and update regularly; this is just one more thing on Maggie's plate that we are striving to achieve.

Thank you to all who have supported us and thanks again to Ra-Media for making this situation alot easier on us! :)

LindsAE... steps up to the plate...

Hey LindsAE... kewl... whole reason why I posted in public that I'll give them a free posting of their banner was to challenge anyone else to do same... so far only you.

So what's up people... I know most here cannot post 'adult stuff' on their sites... but how about those who can.

Let's do it.

I know you told me on the phone where (url) my webmaster can pick up their banner... but I have 1002 pieces of paper on my desk and darn if I can find it. Please post here and I and others can pick it up too. I will take care of first thing Monday morn. Thanks.

hey, it's great to see so much interest in Maggie's.
I work there with Laurel.
we're a peer-run drop-in and resource centre for people in all parts of the business.
our website was a volunteer initiative, donated time, etc. we're well aware it needs work.
however, nobody needs to wait for it to be ready in order to make a donation....
address is:

422 Parliament Street
Box 82527
Toronto ON
M5A 4N8

we do have charitable status, so can give tax receipts, or you can donate anonymously if you prefer.
our funded work is only to do HIV/AIDS prevention, but that's only part of what we do and what pros expect from us.
cheers,
Robert
