Hmm, guess things have changed a bit. There was a time when short term rental agreements with a specific termination date, highlighted and signed off and initialed by the tenant so they're aware of it, not once but at least twice in the lease agreement so there was no misunderstanding. So happy I don't rent anymore.

Short-term is under 30 days. So, Airbnb with a management company maybe the best way to get some money with low risk. A few years back the things got even worse: now if you want to move back into your own place, you must pay tenants 1-month rent compensation. And to make things worse, you must pay it before the day you request them to move out, so they take the money but do not move out.

And the last thing you want with some 1 year clause is tenants who become sour. Some clearly don't know all the laws but some eventually ask online and stuff then find out even though they signed some 1 year clause they don't have to leave. And last thing you want is to annoy your tenants. They could really damage the place and not much you could do about it. Or close to their lease ending they are struggling to find another place to rent. They won't be kicked out and homeless. You'll basically move back into your place and have to live with them and share things until they find a new place. And they can bring pets in even though you say no pets. A family friend might be a good choice if they are reliable otherwise don't bother. Maybe call some companies who handle Air BnB and see how much they charge for their services. If it ends up offsetting your mortgage while you're away that's good enough since you're still in the black.
You wish. You are not allowed to move back and live with them. They have the right to live in your house until the Tribunal says otherwise, and you are the one who will remain homeless.

Poor choice of wording on my part when I said short term when referring to this 1-year term, although I do consider 1-year a short term in this situation.

Sadly, having dealt with the tribunal in the past, they seem to be more gutless now than in the past and they were gutless then.

If you're not a landlord currently with the systems/people in place to handle stuff, I wouldn't bother. Probably not worth the 1-3k a month.
