Looking for an old-fashionned barber at old-fashioned prices, mine has retired and sold the biz.
No interest in stylists charging $35-$50+ a cut.
I've never paid more than $20 for a cut (including tip) and I want to keep it that way.
Any recos in the midtown area.
(I do believe that barbers are a dying bred, not helped at all by provincial regulations forcing all new barbers to become stylists)
Got to check the small strip plazas in local neighborhoods. Always one or two around. I have an older immigrant guy at $14 per(i get sheared). I'm pretty sure he does it mostly to get out of the house so he can read the paper in peace while occasionally having someone to talk to.

Castlefield Hair Salon 5 min walk on Yonge north of Eglinton. I believe it's $15 for a straight cut. Actually a stylist who knows what she's doing, not a barber though.
I think finding a great barber downtown or midtown would be a bit tough. Better to step outside the downtown core imo. Greektown or little Italy would probably have some great guys that have been around for years and would be cheaper.
There is Hollywood, traditional Italian that uses scissors $22 very good job, he's at Sheppard/Wilson Heights. If you want cheaper there are 2 Asian places at the corner of Bathurst and Sheppard $8.
I've discovered that, with haircuts, you get what you pay for..
I recently made the switch from barber to stylist and I don't plan on going back.. For an extra $15 I look like I actually care about my appearance vs just trying to look "cleaned up".. In addition, I'm offered a cappuccino when I sit down at the stylist, every appointment includes a wash, and every appointment begins with a scalp massage.
The Underground Barbershop on Sheppard west of Leslie. Good old Italian guys. I don't think they redecorated since they opened in the mid eighties. It's like stepping into a time warp. $20 for a men's cut. $16(?) for a hot shave with a straight edge. A nice indulgence for a treat or special occasion.
Of course if it's mainly about money, then try a barbers college, usually located close to wherever impoverished students can be found. Or wear a hat.

There is a barbershop at first Canadian place - I forget the name though or Ralph's at bay and wellesley or there is a barber shop at hart house- it used to have a cute woman barber with large tits which she was always brushing against me. I am sure there was one in manulife centre as well. All of these are old school barber shops. Ralph does a good straight razor shave as well.
