Solid trade, frees up cap space as the cap will go from $70 mil to $64 mil for 2013/14. Also get a draft pick, will likely not be an NHL'er but can always get lucky. Most importantly, frees up a centre spot for Aucoin or Kadri, both much better 3rd line choices than Lombardi, and Lombardi would never have been sent down to the Marlies.

There are "diamonds in the rough" that can be had in the 4th round.

Lombardi can be sent down to the Marlies, he just has to clear waivers, if no other team claims him, the Leafs can keep him.

A third line player on a really bad team for a fourth round draft pick...what a blockbuster.

connely placed on waivers
Awesome! Nonis just freed up $8.25 million from the cap. Connolly would've just used up a valuable spot on the crowded 3rd/4th line. And I stand corrected about Lombardi, doesn't save cap for next year but certainly saves it for this year. Leafs have some quality young guys and continuing to purge these old guys is a great move, keep going Nonis!

Crap just saw that Aucoin was picked up on waivers, he was our highest scorer on the Marlies. I was expecting to see him crack the team this year.

They need first and second liners, first and second defense and a first string goalie, not Redden.

Connelly making so much money, the Leafs are betting no team will pick him up off waivers, he can replace Aucoin in the Marlies.

Agreed.

Before you can add veteran supporting cast to your team you need a TEAM (meaning a team with top 6 forwards and top 4 defencemen and a star goalie).
